got beat by a lincoln! first race

i raced my iroc last year and ran a 15.9 with a stock 350 stock gears, then i decided i woudl this year, i have done lots of test and tunes and my neighbour wanted to race, so i said Sure, we stopped lined uphe dropped his arm ,and i give it too much and i can jsut tell im smoking like a ****** . so i let off abit, and shift it to second and the car goes abit sideways so i had to let off the gas for a second. theni figured once i hooked up i was gunna beat this lincoln, but i hooked up and we stayed side by side for the rest! my front bumper at the back of his front door!! Oh what a dissapoinment, i figured i could still blow the tires off but once i hooked up i would still beat him! well it never happened kuse it was side by side the whole way other then the first 60 feet! he only beat me by a few feet but a win is a win. and i got the embarrasement of my first race this year!!

anyway jsut shoudl id share my story

yeah i ran a 15.9 last year with my old engine. 2.73 gear, 700r4 and a motor that bogged off the line, and then spun then wouldnt rev past 4500rpm. and i ran a 15.9 now i have another motor built, .470 cam, performer intake, ported heads,headers.3.73 gears. and it feels a second to a second and a half faster then last year but havent tested it yet, in a week today itsgoign to the race track jsut for an idea of what it really runs

But this time i know what his car is capable of, and i know if i had of atleast sort of hooked up, it would have been Damn Close!

jusst thought i would share my first race of the season with ya guys~

I sold a mark viii to buy my gta. Those things are bad.The 4.6 isnt anything like the gts.Its actually much more like the cobra. Its DOHC 280 HP.Actually the lincoln got this motor 3 years before the cobra did.Mine was definitely faster on topend than my L98.

I had a '93 Mark VIII. I sold it to buy my '03 GT.

The motor is a DOHC 4.6L like the COBRA, not the GT. It's similar to the cobra, but not the exact same one. They have 280HP on the base and 290 on the LSC. The extra 10HP is from true dual exhaust. They take VERY well to mods.

Tell him when he races to turn OFF the traction control. It sucks badly. Worse traction control i've ever expeirenced. I used it a few times in the snow and it stressed me out so much i had to turn it off. Once i did that, it was actually easier to drive the car.

PS. My Mark 8 ran 14.9 @ 95MPH at the track bone stock. Fast cars that haul *** on the highway. Their heavy weight and 3.08 gears make them slugs off the line but once they are moving they are faster than that ET suggests. The are slow from a stop but make it all up top end.

Tell him to check out www.markviii.org

Lol, I thought for a minute you meant lik a lat 80s-early 90s Mark VII. Those are not quick at all, My bone stock RS could beat it by a car and a half and once I tuned it up, and deleted the smog and gave it a fre flowing muffler, im beating them by like aecond or more. My buddy has one, keeps calling me out and I keep takin his money and beating him. I offer to help him hotrod it, take it a step further but he doesnt want my help. Only reasons I offer is cause he well, lol, cant change a heater core hose but talks about all these mods hes gonna do to it lol. Oh, and cause I need friuendly competition. But, hey like they said, watch out for the Mark VIII's, i had one of them dust me off by like nearly cars, i couldnt catch up even after like half am ile but he wasnt pulling away, they are real quick, their weight holds them back, just like the Mark VII's.

In that case, i'd say it was a Lincoln LS.

The 00-02 V8's were 252HP and low 15 sec cars

the 03+ V8 model is 280HP and mid to high 14 second cars.

All from a 3.9L V8

yeah it was a 95 mark 8. And the only reason i have for loosing is, the fact i spun all first, half of second, and then once i did hook up, it bogged kuse i wasnt tuned properly. and then we jsut stayed side by side.

since i got my 02 sensor in my exhaust, and have been tuning to that, there is no bog what so ever!! and i can burn the tires most of second gear now : ( lol, its fun for burnouts kuse now my black lines are more solid then ever and pretty long.

iam getting a set of used cascar slicks for my car, and now that my carburetor is tuned up, we are going to race again, but this time at a track, and this time for a 2 4. since the last race with him, i have removed my subs(80 pounds) amp 10 pounds, removed front sway bar, cleaned my k & n, i got a flowmaster muffler and a bigger accelerator pump for the carbuetor coming in before the race, and those slicks!!! ive got this

i was nervous, and i bet if i hadnt of blown the tires off, and had them damn burnout tires on the back(225's bf good rich) i think i would have beat him with it bogging and with all that extra weight, it was my first race, i was nervous, lol i think my ride is about a 14.6 or 7 the way it is!! i think racing with glue on the track, i should get a 14.3 thats just an idea a ball park figure.

ive got this guy this time, i know i can

what a rip! i ran a 15.5 this year!!! soemthigns must be wrong with my car!!! reaction time was avergaging .650 60 foot times were all around 2.5, and 92 mph at 15.5 seconds was my best run , my first and the best! and i even had wheelhop!!!

after that, i ran worse and worse 15.8 15.9 16.0 16.0 16.0 then i went home ksue i was mad!

i ran 15.9 last year on a stock motor with headers, 2.73 rear, and motor was bogging , front sway bar on, 2.2 60 ft time 89mph

this year
loosened my rear brakes off so they wouldnt drag, took off front sway bar, even took off power steering belt, cleaned my k n new ac delco plugs, taylor street strip wires and with my 3.73 gear posi, corvette servo, .470 lift cam, ported heads, performer intake, quadrajet, open air filter elemnt, headers
and i run worse!!!

anyone got any explanations as to what my problem is!!

i have mroe then enough fuel flow also ( electric tuned port pump regulated to 4 psi.

Maybe you are just a bad driver. That 2.5 60' is pretty bad.

hey stu, no one cares about your opinion! u drive a *** car, i still beat half u imports out of the hole, and i figured out why! my vaccum pot for the secondaries doesnt work, so they open at idle, causing a huge bog, less a bad out of the hole time. i will be going back in 2 weeks to get my 14

Wow, sems to be a lot of new or newer posters on here picking fights...

Stu has a good point, a 2.5 60' is beyond bad. My dads F-150 was pulling 2.4s all night long with no spin at all. The gas pedal is not an on off switch, regulate i and watch the 60's drop! Take the good critisism with the bad, and use it to help you!

Wow, relax everyone.

A 2.5 60-footer isn;t the greatest, but no need to be so harsh.

A 92MPH trap speed is good enough for high 14 second ET's if you can hook.

You either need to practice your launch better or get sticky tires.

Stu is right you know, learn to launch your car. Just to tell you, my 60' times went from a wheel hopping 2.68 with an ET of 15.8X down to a 2.19 with a 15.21 within 2 runs because I learned how to launch the car better. That was with my old 305 little over a year ago.

My 350 TBI with a bog off the line and a stock suspension on a unprepped track was 2.2. Get rid of the Nascar slicks, those are not like regular drag racing slicks. Get that thing dyno'd and try again. See if you are missing power or you just plain suck at driving.

Yeah, stu would beat you. And probably me for that matter. =\

problem FIANALLY FIGURED OUT!!! i had a fuel pressure guage under the hood and adjusted to 7 psi, well i ran a temporary one inside the car! and sure enough, the secoind my car bogs u can watch the guage go down to 2 psi of fuel pressure!! motor woudlnt never rev! which would make scence now, no fuel! i figured the guage under the hood was enough,

so i played wiht my return line abit and my regulator, got it running on 8 psi under fullthrottle and 8 at idle!! ITS starting to run like it should!!!! Mean, and definately got some bolse liek it hsould!, i also got slicks, and i think im ready for my 14's now

That happened to me too when I installed my cam. It bogged really bad above 1/2 throttle. Turned out it was the fuel pump. Changed the fuel pump to 2 bigger sizes and finally got it working.
Now that you know the problem: fix it, take out the Lincoln, and go run 14s.

yes i did hear knock when it went lean, sometimes it got soo bad! that the motor would pop soo loud you had to let off the gas! like 1st gear lots of power, but once it got to second(no fuel in bowl and not enough pressure) and by middle to high 2nd it owuld pop so loud it sounds liek popcorn, changing secondary jets never really did much to it! and its all making scence

Damn right im going to go get my lincoln!! and my 14 second run

no i dont think it did much damage really, i know it got hot in there, but i always had 2 psi of fuel , it just didnt have the power it should! either way im still on stock pistons, so i dont care a whole lot! in fact i need a good reason to rebuild it and go bigger and better

You should probably make sure that there's no damage. You might as well rebuild it now then wait and end up throwing a rod or spinning a bearing. Either that or take it easy for a bit.
