91 Formula vs. 02 GT

Getting a race around here has been pretty much nihil, so a friend and I decided to do a run with his 02 GT against my 91 Formula (L98, Hooker shorties, Dynomax bullet muffler, CAI, shift kit). We used to race a decent amount before I got my exhaust done and the outcome would usually be him having me by a couple of cars at 100 (that's when we could it off). Since it's our winter break and I had just got my exhaust done, it was a nice opportunity to see how they had helped me out. We go from a 20 roll on the 3rd honk, and as soon as that 3rd honk is heard, we both punch it and instantly I pull a fender on him and pull very very slowly on him until I have him by a 1/2 car (it could've been more if 2nd had not spun as much as it did, got to love lowering springs and not having the relocation brackets in). I was rather pleased with the end result and so we decide to go over to a friend's house afterwards. GT's have never been any kind of problem for me besides his, so I don't know if he is just that good of a driver or what, but about 98% of the local new GT's (even slightly modded) still would end up losing to either of us. All in all, it was good to at least have a nice race with a nice car.

I should and more than likely will sometime in the very near future, but this was more of a spur of the moment deal as that I don't race too often on the streets. I'm hoping that siamesed runners and ported plenum will help in some top end, so maybe that will edge things out even more.

Or just get a "sniper" kit, that could be handy, you know, a little sniff of N2o ;-)

If he had 2 cars on you at 100 and now your winning with just exhaust mod..

um.. I have had stock to 3 1/2 inch done and only gained a .093 max on my 1/4 times and it was in colder weather.

You tell me

Well then you would call BS on me...

I ran 13.89 @ 98 with shorties, and a catted H-pipe (both 2.5" and aftermarket). Then I went to long tubes and a Prochamber (no cats) all the same size, and added pulleys as well, and the car ran, get this...

13.05 @ 103

I gained 8 tenths and 5 mph and I already had an aftermarket exhaust! So call BS all you want, its 100% possible and probable, especially if he had a clogged cat, or something of the sorts!

I'm sorry if you don't agree with my mods, but like I said, with just a muffler, we would be dead even up until 70 and then that's where he'd start pulling on me pretty decently. I don't really see why you are calling BS considering that other forum members have gained .2 just from headers and a decent cat back. My 1/8th times were dead consistent 9.0x before the headers, so I should definitely be in the 8's with the new mod (if traction were to remain a constant). Like I said, I'm sorry you dont' believe me, but I'm pretty sure we got it on tape (if the filmer was taping with the digital camera he had) and I'll post it if he does indeed have it.

Good race!

I raced a 03 gt (5 speed) and we were even until about 60-65ish then he started pulling a bit. I blew my chance though, I could have killed him off the line, but I spun my whole first gear. This was also before the headers/y pipe.

Cool, I forgot to mention my friend's GT was also a 5 spd. Also, I should add that I had no cats previously, so a clogged cat was not the case. The y-pipe was also changed, so that quite possibly could have yielded said results. Thanks for all the replies.

maybe something was wrong with the GT or something, you don't get nearly 1 second increase in 1/4 with y pipe, not possible

What are you talking about? My car was not a 15 sec. slug. Like I said, before the exhaust, I was running 9.0x 1/8th mile times and the GT would run 9.1x times. The average GT at our track would run anywhere from 9.2-9.5 (this is in part due to a poorly kept track where the normal ls1 would run 8.9-9.0). Nevertheless, I know what happened and I'm sorry you do not agree with this, but those are the results.
