93' lx 302 vs. 89' formula 350

alright, this kids got a bone stock 93' lx 5 speed, with a stock rear, (2.73's i think) with possibly a cat back, i have a
full edelbrock exhaust, including street legal headers, and 3" all the way back to the muffler, no cat. #23 injectors, chip, newly machined 305 heads, stock posi rear (2.73's) and a 700R4 with a shift kit, and a B&M rachet. we'll probably race as soon as his cars on the road... who do you guys think will get smoked?? i think eventually he's putting in 3.73's and an aluminum driveshaft... but thats after the first race. lemme know what you guys think, thanks

Pending you PROM is dialed inyou should beat him. The stock TPI will seriously hinder your top end on that motor though.

Go with a stealth ram or mini ram. Any aftermarket long runner TPI set-up isn't much better than stock.

Ahhhh Just thought I'd get things going. But seriously thought, like someone mentioned if you have you're set-up in tune and running up to par you shouldn't have a problem (that's if he's a pretty much a stocker). Happy sailing

the 5 speed will keep you in your upper powerband better with that extra gear, the six speed wont make any difference unless its a richmond close ratio.

I don't know of any 5 speed 93 LX Mustangs with 2.73 gears 3.55 maybe. Do you have 1.6 rockers? If you don't get some your gonna need that extra hp your cam has a pretty low lift. That LX is light very light an you have a auto which makes you alot heavier. Only thing I can say is make sure your tire pressure is a little low so you can hook up better. Because if he gets the kick this race is over. I'll be PRAYING FOR YOU!

I think you should save the money you will spend on the intake and buy some gears like a 3.42 or 3.73 with a posi. i gained almost 4/10's of a second from a 3.23 to a 3.73

If he has stock gears he most likely has 2.73s. Most came with 2.73s, the stick cars had the option of 3.08s, and the autos could be had with 3.08 or 3.27s. But from what I have seen the majority came with the 2.73s, whether auto or stick!

Take out your front sway bar for the race an put it back after.
That will definitely take a couple of tenths off your time but goes around curves like crap! If you got a couple of hundred to spend a guy on ebay sells control arms and panhard bar for $159 and control arm relocation brackets for $59. Get your suspension tight lower springs helps also. If you haven't touch that intake do some mild porting to the plenum thats a cheap inexpensive mod you can do also. An be sure to take out the spare and jack and hope you don't get a flat on the way there!

I took off my front sway bar and i haven't really noticed much of a difference in normal driving. It still handles corners okay too. This helps the nose come up and plant the rear tires.
You can also swap in a fresh set of plugs and wires, run the gas tank low and keep it at 1/8 of tank of premium with a bit of octane boost too. With the good gas you can advance the timing a bit more maybe. A battery relocate to the trunk may help traction... Find out where you will be racing and go practice launching too. The first 60' will decide who wins this one. Make sure your motor is nice and cool before you run...

2.73's was the standard gear from '86 to '98. You could get optional 3.27's on automatics and optional 3.08's on 5-spds.

Saleens had 3.55 options during the fox years.

I suggest 3.73's with a 700R4. I have had 3.42, 3.73 and currently 4.10's. My car isn't my daily driver anymore so i like the steep gears. Im not on the highway much with it anymore.. With the 4.10's im at 2700rpm @ 60 or so. The 3.73's i think i was at 2350rpm. The car is almost 2 tenths faster with the 4.10's from 3.73's and 4 tenths from the 3.42's...
I think the 3.73's give you the best of both worlds.

sounds good man.. ill get the 3.73's off summit as soon as i get the rear... i was gonna just get a junk yard rear and put gears in it, and rebuild it. my rear is pretty much not rebuildable b/c my dad tried to take it apart but he couldnt b/c he said the pin that your supposed to take out to dissasemble the rear was impossible to get out.... his diagnostic was too many burnouts lol... also the car has over 240k on it.. so whatever. anyway, thanks for the suggestion
