4th Gen VS IROC

Ok I have a friend, who has full exhaust, Ignition, ram air and a couple of suspension mods on his 2000 Camaro (V6), now my other buddy has an 89 IROC
With headers, catback, and K&N filters who do you think would win this one?

i wouldnt be so sure, as i hear the 2000 cars 3.8 can go mid 15's which is past 305 LG4's

Assuming "full exhaust" for the V6 means it also has headers/catback then I think the race would be pretty competitive between the two if the IROC has a 305 TPI auto with those mods. Does the v6 have a auto or 5spd, that would make a significant difference? Base power on the two engines would be pretty darn close (5 less hp but something like 40+ more ft-lbs for the V8). It then comes down to how strong each engine happens to be running with the mods and whether or not the V6 is equipped with a 5spd (which I think had a better stock rear gear, don't recall)...

If the IROC has the 305 TPI 5spd (hotter cam than the auto equipped 305 TPI with possibly better gears) or the 350 TPI with those mods I would think it would win pretty handily, assuming it's in tune and driven well, etc.

If it's one of the poor IROCs that go saddled with the 305 TBI it will probably lose, down on power pretty decently from the TPI cars...

LG4's stopped production in 87 as that was also the first year of the LO3...Its most likely a 305TPI but you need to tell us morei nfo on the IROC. As long as its a decent running TPI car, it should have no problem taking down the 4th Gen, although they can roll for a V6.

If there is a 350 in the IROC then I going to have to say the Iroc. but if there is a 305.... I don't know. to me that's a close call...

LO3's are indeed TBI. I have to look up the years but you could get an LO3 in certian year IROC's. In '92 you could also get the LB9 in an RS. However, GM made it an option and only like 100 or so were actually ordered that way.

Well the IROC is a 305 auto, and the 2000 V6 is also auto.
We are going to run them tonight and see what the out come is.
My personal though is that they are going to run dead even.

I dunno how my 89 305 tpi auto would do against a 2000 V6. Im only runnin 16.2 in the qtr. Newer technology would probably prevail. If it was an IROC TBI it would go down for sure. That is unless he throws down a 100 shot or so.

Well they raced last night. First race was from a dig and the Iroc ate the 6 out of the whole but the six caught up and only lost by about half a carlength. The second race was from a roll. The 4th gen picked up a car fron the roll and by 115 the V6 had the Iroc by a car.

So I guess from a roll the V6 is better than TPI?

so its a TPI 305 auto? if its not in perfect tune, cuz of being old and has some miles on it, it is to be expected... V6 4th gens are 15 second cars...
