what am i doing wrong?
after pulling to the light i notice a 2000ish mustang gt on my left. it's late and why not. so i wave give him the thumbs up and wait for the light to turn.
light turns green and i ease into it and wait for him to punch it. when i see the front of the gt pick up i roll into mine and start to pull up and away. as i pull past the front of the gt he shifts and i am past when i hit second shortly after he is well past my bumper and then he lets off.
this has happened on SEVERAL occasions with various cars. i expect them to run a little longer but they all seem to quit after i pass them.
am i dong something wrong? why do the 'give up' so soon?
we aren't even above 60 and they stop.
is it me or what?

Well, normally when all the clowns on the street start to race each other....when one car jumps ahead and keeps pulling, most people with half a brain see that as a sign that the other car won, and give up. Why would you keep after someone that is steadily pulling you? Then again, they must not be too bright to be racing on the street anyway.

2. Gas is expensive!
84L69TA - being a moderator I figured you would be able to notice when you're on the wrong board. In case you didn't notice, this is the STREET RACING BOARD. All replies condemning such should be kept to yourself, no matter what the justification.

And if you read the title of the forum, it is "Theoretical and street racing". THEORETICAL....thats not just on the street. That could be anywhere. Do you understand that?

It could be psychological. I would think some may give up thinking they have no chance if they are blown out of the hole by a couple cars.
Maybe some don't want to get to excessive speeds that would endanger themselves and others.
Maybe they are trying to coax you into getting busted by the cops.....
Could be some of these or all of these reasons.
Or maybe they mis-shifted.

If you want to race people longer than you will have to go to a track. Most people don't want to risk the danger going over 60 on a street race. A short low speed burst is about what most people feel comfortable. If they are loosing why would they want to go faster?
To everyone: This forum title does indeed state Street Racing in the title, but we really encourage the theoretical part. We encourage everyone to take their car to the track where they can safetly run at high speeds in an area where people won't get hurt. Not to mention that the time slip they give you at the end can really help you rub victory into someones face. We have asked to have the boards title changed to theoretical racing but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen. If you openly admit to being an idiot on the road then you will most likely hear about it.

I have to agree here, you post anything expect people to agree and disagree, whether it be about your actions or anything.
I will say I wouldnt race much over 60 either, its just not smart. Its hard, you race to 60, and you give up you get made fun of, you race to 100 but then pass the guy whose winning, and you've pulled the ***** fly by. Explain where the stopping point is. This is probably why I choose not to street race (besides being dangerous)!

130 on the street 4x the legal speedlimit. now i can maybe and i say maybe and i say this loosely its ok if you do it on a interstate in the middle of now where like nevada in the desert or somewhere but good lord your asking for trouble at that speed 130 you hit a pot hole a gust of wind you lose concentration your gonna start swerving and fishtailing it till you either hit something roll or flip it. i race to 60 as its a sane speed i can stop in a resonably short distance and by this time you can usually identify the winner.
