74 Formula VS 88 IROC

Here are the specs:

99% stock 74 Formula 400: 225hp, TH-400/3.08s. Heavy car--has a/c, pw, pdl. About 3800lbs

100% stock 88 IROC with the 170hp 305 TBI/700r4/2.73--most options, hardtop car. 3350lbs

Who do you think would win? what times?

My money is on you're Formula. Regardless of the huge weight difference, you're Poncho has a tremendous torque advantage (which you forgot to post)...

it will be a close one so I wouldn't count the LO3 out all together. Those birds were terribly slow.

Cut out the catalytic converter if you have one and bolt in a straight pipe. Buy an Edelbrock intake and Holley 750 cfm carb. Don't forget to post the results from the race.

no cat on pre 75s.

a big yes on headers, duals, intake, and maybe the carb. i personally had a lot of luck with the quad.

i had a 75 TA with 400 and 4 spd and it was pretty sad til i put the headers, duals, and dominator intake. re-curved the distributor and juiced up the carb some. she was sweet then. cracked 140 with it.

a little goes a looong way with a 400 cube engine.

Absolutely. I raced a two ton Pontiac Lemans last year, running a healthy 400 (open element, exhaust, Ram Air IV cam, excellent tune), and the car made a low 13 second 1/4 mile pass, without breaking a sweat...

15.8 for the Firebird and 16.2 for the Camaro.

Oddly enough the Camaro is faster off the line but acceleration falls off after the 1/8 mile. Thats where the Pontiac pulls ahead.

Guess the 3.06 first gear and the lighter weight do that. Not much low end in the Pontiac.

my 2 cents

well its easy to open those pontic 400 up to some high numbers .unlike the l03 witch is a waste of money to modd.with under $1600 the 400 could be running with stock ls1s

Give that poncho some ram air heads, a healthy cam and longtubes. Then so smack around some ls1s.

I agree GodSpeedGTA, but I also dont think the bird will have anyproblem at all killing an l03. Bird wins hands down, Iroc has no chance.
