Took down a punk driving a Typhoon
First my disclaimer. When I was in my mid-20's and for awhile after that, I was a terror out on the streets. Fortunately, I never got caught or was involved in any kind of accident. Nowadays, even though I drive a pretty hot modified IROC, I don't act like it. I just kind of go from A to B with a smile on my face most of the time. However...there are occaisionally folks who succeed in pushing my buttons.
I was cruising along a nice wide boulevard heading out of town and this SUV was just cruising along next to me, "flying" in perfect formation for a couple of miles. Then he inched forward, so I could see it was a...GASP...(shudder)...TYPHOON!
(I am imagining this was the effect he was trying to solicit).
Then he fell back and ran along side of me and started playing with his throttle so I could hear that he modified his turbo 3.8 and had a really loud-sounding blow-off valve. He kept this up until we were coming up to a red light, and I was pretty much ignoring him.
Then he pissed me off. He hit the throttle hard and cut me off with only inches to spare, and got in front of me at the light. I couldn't swing back over to the other lane because there was already someone there.
I said, "Okay you SOB, think you're so hot?" And ratchetted down into 1st. The light turned, and had I been next to him, I'd have easily gotten a carlength on him while he was in turbo lag. I had to half throttle it in 1st until his boost hit. Then he did pull pretty hard, but only got a half carlength on me because when I floor it in 1st, my rpm's tend to zip up above 5200 rpm, and it doesn't pull as hard. But then I shifted into 2nd and started gobbling up the real estate between him and I. Then I shifted into 3rd and was really starting to pass him. So this punk swerves into the other lane to halt my progress. But SUV's don't handle like F-bodies, and without lifting, I shot into the other lane and passed him. Then he brakes, pretending like he didn't want to race after all, and I braked too. This time, I flew in formation with him, and he does all his stupid blow-off valve maneuvers. I ignored him because even though I started off behind him rather than beside him on the launch, I beat him fair and square. In fact, I was spanking him.
Man, he didn't like it either. But he couldn't goad me into a 50mph and up race, and finally gave up and went down another road to pick on someone that he could bully.
I admit, it was a pretty quick SUV, but I've had tougher races against WRX Sti's. Must've sucked for him to be schooled by a Camaro!
Gotta watch those sleepers. Now he knows...
Go ahead, tell me about all the laws I broke...but it did feel GOOD!

He had some basic mods, but stock bottom end....he put on a larger turbo.....
After 4 BUILT trannies in 15k he got rid of it.
Fast, but how many 700-R4's can you go through before you say enough?

I love those things and want one for myself......The feeling you get when its building boost from a stop is amazing....in a GN the car lifts from the rear up and launches hard as hell with the front end ocming up. In a Sylcone, the whole truck raises up and hen it goes WOT, it throws you back in the seat and you're ohld on tight for a ride.....and that was in the pouring down rain on street tires. It had 3 little chirps on takeoff before grabbing and not one slip or spin out of it, pure amazing!

Well, Killjoy, I wasn't out looking for a race, it was looking for me. I was actually behaving myself. The point WASN"T that I can beat any Ty or Sy out there, that would be extremely arrogant. Almost as arrogant as you assuming you'd clean my clock with your Ty.
Maybe you can, how should I know...I've never intended on actually TRYING to make my IROC fast. I yanked the tired 305 and dropped in a modded 355 that I had in my Corvette. The car is noticeably quicker than other IROCs, even stock 350-powered 3rd gens, but I never said it was "Totally modded out" either. If it were, it would be quicker still.
It has a really strong 350 in it. High compression, cammed, good exhaust, etc. And it has good gears in it. Basically it's a late model car with definite muscle car attitude. But I'm not saying it's the greatest.
Then again, there's a huge difference between a 12.8 at low altitude and a 12.8 at 5,800 feet ASL. Show me a 12.8 in Colorado and I'll agree that you have an impressive Typhoon. But I doubt if you're any quicker than a high-13 at best, and probably really a 14 here. So back at ya.
Bring it on out. Looser buys the beer.
Then maybe you could try out your SUV on some other pretty serious cars, including my two big block muscle cars (which really are very heavily modified) and those of my friends.
First you'll be humbled, and then we'll all get drunk together.
I dunno, sounds like fun to me.

Look out for modded tys and sys? Who cares? If that's the case, look out for modded camaros with big blocks and 400 shot nitrous. What's your point?
My point is the ty got spanked. Period.

Yeah that's true. He would lose less performance with his forced induction than I would naturally aspirated. Still, with the aerodynamics of a brick, he'd have to make up for it in the first half of the track. His aerodynamics would really hurt him towards the traps, I would think.
I also agree with the other post.
You also have to watch out for modded F-bodies. Mines not as modified as some peoples' on this forum. I could've taken it further, but if I have more of a need for speed, I'll jump in one of my big block cars and go faster.

you think a Typhoon was high tech??? ahahhahahahhahahahhahahahhah gimmie a break..
go take a look at a typhoon motor really closely.. they are FAR from hightech... in fact they are notorious for always breaking down or having issues..
yeah im an idiot.. right.. nice post
