Racing a Jeep

Yeah, I know I shouldn't be surprised at the outcome of this race. A guy at work with a 96 Jeep Cherokee with a straight 6 has challenged me. Apperently he's raced a couple civics and focuses and thinks his car is fast. We left work at the same time one night and I'm still breaking my engine in so I was driving conservativly and he flys by me. The next day he says, "like how I blew by you last night?" I just laughed. Im gonna be racing him with the GTA.

Your L98 will own him. I have awd grand cherokee with the 318 and my GTA beats it rather easily. I cant imagine what it would to to an inline 6.

If he is stock you will murder him. It isnt hard to make a 4.0 fast though, but sounds like he is a stocker.

They can be made fast, but unless hes running a **** load of boost or spraying a huge shot, hes still not gonna beat wind charger if he has a good matching performance cam and heads.

Are you serious? Maybe a TBI but a TPI would absolutely kill a JEEP!

You be suprised about some the Jeeps. I own a 04 Wrangler with the 4.0. Off the line thing is pretty quick. Let me say it would deff own any LG4/L03 or V6 third gen for a street race. It would be a good race with a peanut cam Lb9. The 5 speed lb9/L98 will murder it though. Why am i talking about Jeeps in this Forum anyways

Ummm... is this a joke lol. You would smoke him with a stock L98. With those mods you are going to destroy him.

My 02 Sport with 4.0L 5spd and 3,73's runs 15.6@86mph in the 1/4 That would be enough to surprise some poor running auto TPI cars. I havent run my Grand Cherokee with the 5.2L yet, but Im pretty sure it's slower.

It can be a good race for a early peanut cammed 305. TBI or TPI, especially if it has some basic bolt on's. A wrangler should take down most RS cars.

When my cherokee was stock, I took down an L69 car. We only raced to 60, but I edged it out. Hole shot on I was ahead.

Lol our stock 95 Jeep Cherokee... I could definately smoke my Monte SS with L69.

Inline 6's are really quick I have to admit... My new Trans Am could probobly beat it tho...(77 4 bolt main 350) Our 2000 Silverado would just smoke it tho... It will smoke anything.

Um...having a 4 bolt main block doesnt make it any faster. And your comment about the 2000 Silverado is rather funny. I guess you dont really race a whole lot of people with it.

Did the corvette know they were racing? If it actually beat one, then the silverado obviously isnt stock. Even the new SS silverados are low 15 and high 14 sec trucks. And if you have the HD with a duramax diesel it does a blistering 0-60 in 8 1/2 seconds. Thats only gonna beat a corvette running on 4 cylinders.

Single cab short bed 2wd 5.3Ls can pull low 15s (some report high 14s) bone-stock. The Silverado SS runs mid 14s stock. Hell my truck with a tune, long-tubes, and running on 20s (they slow you down quite a bit) pulls high 14s low 15s on motor.

The Duramax just needs a fuel box to be a potential mid high 14 second truck...

I have personally witnessed a stock 13.1, forgot the trap speed though.

Those were non HO motors. Not sure how much of a difference though. Mine was a 4.0 ho with 3.55s, and in GREAT tune.
