Another "who'd win" post....

Just curious. As much as I would like to think I could take an LS1, I've heard so many people that own one say that they're the fastest thing on the road.

Now, my brother owned a 2000ish Firebird that had a LS1 6 spd, and I drove it around the block a couple of times, and I'll admit it def. wasn't slow. But - IMO it wasn't all that fast from a stop, and I think my car would crush him the first 60 ft. or so, but as it wound up his LS1, it made great power. Keep in mind the car only had maybe 20K on it at the time and ran perfectly.

As I understand it, they make 320ish HP (at the crank I assume), and I'm not sure about the torque ratings of LS1's...but they're no sloutch. I've never raced mine (yet) - but I'm just curious....who'd win in a 1/4 mile run?

Dude you have damn near 400hp, what do you think It's pretty obvious you'd smoke a stock one.

Also, the LS1's don't FEEL fast, hell mine doesn't feel all that fast but it has such a smooth torque curve it doesn't feel like it plants you back like other motors.

their no slouch and dyno 310 or so to the wheels so their under-rated.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I didn't see it so obvious.
No, I honestly didn't know....and still won't really till I get a couple runs down the track.

I almost spit my drink on the monitor!! lol - If you only knew how **** my brother is with his cars, you'd think it's funny too! Like I said, aside from the high dollar aftermarket wheels, it only had 20K miles and looked like it should be on the showroom floor!! It was a beautiful car - for a fourthgen.

their no slouch and dyno 310 or so to the wheels so their under-rated.
That's why I asked. I've heard of a few stockish LS1's running high 12's, low 13's....not slow. I'd be happy with it...and smack down 20 MPG to boot!

I wish....

Well, if you're serious about racing a stock LS1 I really don't see you losing unless you get all Corky behind the wheel. Granted, anything can happen but I really don't see you losing.

They'll smack down a lot more than 20 in stock form if you drive it right. Like 25+ on the highway if you got the 6 speed.

I personally think if you motor has a dyno proven 390 hp (and 490 tq! ) if you hook you would whoop up on him.

the thing about the LS1 that makes me jealous is the fact that it doesn't take many performance parts to make them really go. I mean just put a better MAF sensor, cold air intake, exhaust and some pulleys with a power programmer tune and you got 400 HP and a mid 12 second car.. I have invested lots of time and money and tried about everything just to get where a stock LS1 is.... The only thing the L98 has on the LS1 is looks.. I love the look of that plenum and runners.. like a freakin aluminum spider that inhales like a ****...

BTW, i think you would take him if he hasn't done much over stock...

Eh, the MAF's don't do crap, half the time they make the car run worse lol
