My 357 Vs. Chevy Turbo Diesel
I was coming home from my friends house tonight and at the light was a white newer chevy turbo diesel pickup truck, I accelerated normally when it turned green, he stayed back. He eventually picked up speed and got on my ***. I was kinda pissed off so I gunned it and got over in the right lane. He then accelerated next to me. I gunned it, he floored it. I heard his turbo winding up and I was already moving past him pretty quickly, I accelerated hard on him and we started slowing down at 110. I was about 8-10 car lengths ahead of him. The street I was on was really rural and it was 2 lane, I had my brights on when I was gunning it. The next stop light, we both stop. I put my shifter into 2nd (700r4) and when the light turned green I slowly pressed the gas down so I wouldnt loose traction (I have really bald tires). I put it into overdrive near 5500rpms at the end of 2nd gear. I pulled on him really hard, even after his turbo wound up he still couldnt catch up at all.
So far the two kills I have with my new engine are both turbos. A turbo Eagle Talon and now a Chevy turbo Diesel. I raced a 6.0 Gto the other day and he beat me, got about a car length and a half ahead of me by the time we hit 70.
So far im pretty happy with my car even though there is so much more room for improvement.

Good for you man. I hate trucks that think they're fast because they have a stinkin turbo.
Yeah a turbo with about 2000 extra lbs!

A crossfire has GREAT Low-end torque and can generally get out of the hole pretty well. I have driven a 180 HP Crossfire 305 and a 190 HP LB9 305. The crossfire would leave the LB9 looking at its tailights off the line.

Yeah, found out why the car was being slow, choke wasnt opening.
Last night I was crusing in a 45, next to a new Charger R/T, cruising next to him going 50, I paced next to him for a good while, the oncomming traffic ended up clearing up and he gunned it *probably was nervous about cops*, I gunned it, I kept right next to him the whole time, then around 90mph I started pulling ahead of him about an inch every 2 seconds. We shut down when I was going about 110, his front end was at my wheel well.
I was happy with this kill, even though it was only by a foot or so. 31,000 dollar car up against my 1984 budget machine.

good kill man.
makes me wonder what i raced the other night. they had a white one pull me on the other side of 100, but he had a nice jump. even so he only put 1- 1/2 cars on me. from a dig i would have killed him. i think it was a SRT8 though. it had different groundFX and rims.

Congrats, you probably beat a 16-17 second truck. If it was chipped, more then likely high 14s. Either way, there's a damn good reason that 99% of diesel truck owners only mess with each other, other spark-plug powered trucks (like mine), or ricers...
I don't know why anybody would say good kill???

honestly dude, no one asked for your sarcasm. if you dont have anything nice to say, then dont say it at all.

Sorry but I have to agree that unless your racing a Turbo Diesel at the track... or has some obvious mods... what is the point?
I know they can be made to crazy power both HP and Trq, enough to rip a cars body to shreds.
But unless you are actually racing one that has been worked on... it's not a kill. It is more like you wasted your gas cause you thought it was actually WORTH racing a non modded TD...
Cause if you actually come across a truly modified one, you will know cause it will eat you alive.

Yeah, I dont know much about those trucks at all. I assumed that they were considerably faster than that. Why is it that chips wake those engines up so much?

diesels can make practicaly unlimited HP, they are limited only by reliability concerns for the engine/drivetrain. stock they have to worry about warranties.

I've seen plenty make good numbers, it's good for towing and stuff but their rigs are still too heavy to go fast down the quarter.
I know of one that makes over 900 ft-lbs to the rear wheels, is 2wd, launches on slicks, and still runs a 13.5
Moddin diesels gets pricey quick.

Chips and programmers work do well because it is not hard to get power out of a diesel at all.
Hell 1200-1600 bucks will see those things crush most 'street/strip' cars.
For what you spend on a Turbo or Super charger, and get that massive 150 Hp, they can get closer to 8-900 Hp and WELL over 1000ft Lbs...
But again they do that they have to have trans redone.
Hell a recent build I saw on Extreme 4X4 (I know I know its spike) and that is what I am getting back into (4X4)... They did a twin t Chevy 6.5L duramax that made high 800's Hp and 1300 and change Ft Lbs... is all I can say.... 4 high that thing and simply roast tires...

I raced a 2006 QC Dually Cummins at the track. He did 18.1 on the stock setting and 16.5 with his Quadzilla on the max setting. His truck had a manual tranny so that's working against him, but still.
Diesels are great, but with that much wieght it takes a ****-ton of power to move one down the track quickly. And building that much power is going to cost you coin from the front to the back of the truck...
I've raced dozens of diesels in my truck (off the bottle), and they all get stomped. BTW, my truck runs at the bottom of the bottom of the 15s on motor, it's not fast by any means...

A friend of mine that owns a diesel performance shop has a Ram that makes close to 800hp/1500tq. It's pretty quick. Low 11s on the bottle.
