305TPI vs. a slug

Who's gonna win?

Am I going to break into some stock L98 1/4 mile times with these mods? *It's an auto*

Hooker super comp shorties
3" y pipe
! cat
3" catback
TPI airfoil (wooopdeeee)
gutted airbox
4th gen 10 bolt with 3.42's

Obviously I'm doing bolt ons for right now until I can build a mean L98 block for the car.

Maybe...

Friend of mine in hs had a 86 305tpi auto iroc with pretty much the same mods that just could not keep up with my 89 l98 in totally stock form.

Of course youve got a better cam, but his was a hardtop.

How well the ol' boatanchor has held up over the years will make a big difference obviously.

It's held up great actually. It's about to turn 89,000 miles in a few days And it's got a bad rear main seal, but other than that it's a great runner. It actually beat my old '89 IROC-Z that was a 305tpi/auto, and that car was a hardtop if that tells you anything.

*I race my old car with only a cut out, air foil, and gutted air box. I haven't bought the headers and exhaust yet...soon though.

This is the G92 IROC we're talking about, right? Those mods against a stone stock L98 should make for a good race.

You'll be lucky to hit a flat 15 quarter with those mods. I don't think you'll be at stock L98 times.

Whats the slug your racing??

The G92 305 was only 15hp shy of the L98 stock for stock, I would think with headers and full exhaust that you'd have a very close race.

If you pay close attention you'll see that even in the L98 community there is almost a full second range for modded cars. Some good advice would be to get long tubes and a nice 3in exhaust, or dual 2.25/2.5's with a flow through style muffler, heat and raise the lip on the air box a bit, and get a good tune in the car. I'm not sure what the hot ticket for a 305 tune is but the ARAP bin worked amazingly well for me. Perhaps if you drop it down to 19 pound injectors it will work?

P.S. The hot *free* ticket for these cars is fully porting the base and siamesing the plenum/radiusing the runner entries you could also try siamesing the base a bit. I believe it was Madmax that did this and gained power all around on his 305.

First off I'm referring to the convertible, cuz I said it's an auto. The IROC is a 5spd.

I forgot one other thing that someone mentioned here. I was planning on having my buddy port the plenum and base, and siamese the runners. Then I would need to get it tuned at the local Fbody shop. I better break into the lower 14's when it's all said and done.

I can see you in the 14s right now with your mods.

also...I''m not trying 2 be off topic but similar to BlueZ28 car, would a 86 Iroc 305 TPI be onpar with a L98 with the mods below

- Edelbrock Hi-flo Intake
- Edelbrock Hi-flo runners
- Comp Cam Magnum 270H. 0.50 . 224/244 Dur ..470/470 lift
- Comp Cam 1.5 rockers / kit
- TPIS airfoil
- 2055 hooker headers / Y-pipe
- 3in custom catback exhaust
- 3:23 gears

So long as it's tuned I'd say it'd be a good race.

My G92 91 Z28 runs 14.5 1/4 mile times with just cat back exhaust and some drivetrain mods. Changed gears from factory 3.42s to 3.73s. Now can't hook up in first gear, runs 14.7s. Should keep up with a L98
