My friend owns a 1999 firebird V6 I am looking at a 1993 camaro V6 ,when I had a 1991 rs 305 lo3,we ran alot(weekends dragin main)he is stock and I had costom air filter and borla pipes, the two ran close. I sold my 91 after i recked it(old joker pulled out in front of me and I was lookin at the radio)I just want to know will I still be able to run with him, if not what mods will put us even ,or do I need to keep looking?ohyea his is auto mine will be manual.

hes got a 3.8, yours would have a 3.1. youll be starting a good 50hp or so behind him. its gonna take more than a couple of lil bolt ons to keep up w/ him. its not gonna be terrible to do but youre gonna need more than filters and a catback, lol. its early yet, but id guess a good $800 at least, more depending on what you get. TomP tune up to start, then headers, catback, etc etc etc.

Those 3.1's can run knowing what to do of course1. air intake
2. full catbacks
3. High flow catalytic converters
4. mufflers
5. computer chip
6. 160 degree thermostat
7. camshaft
8. Pulley
9. Shift kit (if automatic)
10. kickdown kit (if automaic)
11. differentials
12. Ignition - MSD
13. spark plugs and spark plug wires
there are other things of course but these are some, I like the third gen birds the best but its hard finding one fixed up around here or with some serious power (v6) so I'm making it my goal to be the first one with a third gen with some serious power around here.

He said he's looking at a '93 camaro, those have a 3.4. The 3.4 has 160hp and the 3.8 has 200. So you're down 40hp, but on the bright yours weighs about 100 pounds less and has a 5 spd. I would say cold air intake, exhaust w/ high flow cats, ignition upgrades, and a cam would have you running with him and probably beating him.

the 3.4 is slower then the 3.8. the 3.8 is faster, and I find it looks better also. you could be running with him with upgrades, but then again, if my frined was beating me with a smaller motor, I'd put some money on it and beat him!

the 3.8 is a very strong motor i know i have one and unfortunatley beat quite a few lo3 thirdgens and few different odds and ends and mine is all stock. you will have to do some major tuning intake/exhaust gears possibly and hope he cant drive. :P

Re: CAMARO V6 VS. FIREBIRD V6
Pop his hood and while he's not looking unplug a sensor or a spark plug wire or two. After you beat him reconnect whatever til next time. He'll praise you for fixing his car.lol
