well, im in HS of course and ive got two kids who wanna race. one kid has a foxbody RUSTang w/ a stock 4cyl. not to worried about him. the other kid has a 95? i believe, or at least that body style eclipse. its fwd and stock other than a catback and thats all. I have an automatic 91 rs 305 tbi, w/ 8.5mm msd wires, ac delco rapid fire plugs, edelbrock open air element, and exhaust chopped off at y pipe ( bought it like that, saving up for a whole system). if i race from a dig, think i have a chance?

 

The Mustang is no problem. I raced a turbo eclipse with intake and exhaust from a stop with my RS with the mods listed, and beat him by like a car length, maybe a little more.

Mustangs a no problem, the eclipse depends on a lot. Three questions, n/a or turbo, auto or stick, fwd or awd?

 

the eclipse is a stick 4cyl FWD nonturbo w/ a catback. but also weighted down with a heavy box and amp.

 

those cars shouldent be a problem, but with you pipes cut off at the y pipe it could kill all you low end tq, but if its runing stong you will be fine

if you could ,go to the track so you can rub the timeslip in there face and there no about them not raceing or you are them jumping the line

 

Take it from a 4 cyl Mustang owner. Unless you have a school bus or plan on taking of a few wires and towing a trailer, you will be alright. AND thats coming from someone with the 93 (105 hp vs 88hp for the previous years) and a 5-speed!

 

so the eclipse is my worry. i mean my car is running quite strong. i have low end tq. maybe not as much as i could? but its there. if i get a good launch think he'll be able to catch up?

The Eclipse might be closer than you think, depends on the tune of your car. If I knew what you ran in the 1/4, I could tell you more. There are a lot of L03 cars on here in the 16s, which isn't too far away from an Eclipse like the one racing you. But if you're in good tune, you should have him by a couple cars at least.

and just to check to the orignal poster the mustang isn't a turbo is it?

 

A stock SVO, would be a lower 15 higher 14 car. But like most turbo cars a few tweaks and hello low 14s high 13s. They will run good but the more power you make the tougher it is. There is a local one just went for sale. 91K miles, red/grey 86 SVO. Cars clean as hell and the dealer wants $7995. I stopped in and had to basically wait in line to look at it!

 

your right just a few tweaks there are two brothers by me and one has the turbo and that thing screams and his brother who has the ford probe with that turbo motor and it will suprise u if your not pretty quick

 

the stang isnt turboed.

 

watch out for the eclipse, even though its NA they can still be quick, i used to have a 95 GS eclipse, and they pull hard as hell around 4 grand... you should have have him bad off the line but those little things run good on top end so... long as he don't have a cam or anything like that you should be alright... if it was a turbo'd awd 1st gen, you wouldn't stand much of a chance

 

the first gen eclipse is slow enough that a 305TBI can laugh at it atleast. hell a v6 would prolly laugh at the first gens and I don't think the second gens are that much quicker.

 

An NA Eclipse pulls "hard as hell" after 4000 RPM. I can only imagine how you would describe the pull of something not a 15 or 16 second car!

for 15's your giving it too much credit. that would be more along the lines of a turbo. I would say more like easily high 16's 17's or so. I used to drive a first gen and it was very very slow. about on par with my corsica I would say. raced a second gen on a freeway one time against my rx7. this was a more or less no shift race and his was an auto any so that takes a lot of the skill out of it right there. I was leaving him everytime. only once did I have a little bit of a problem and that was cause he got a good jump on me and took two cars before I was able to really get the downshift and gas it and by that time I was easily realing him back in. and this was with my rx7 in 4th after the downshift at 60-65mph I should of been in third instead.


oh and the rx7 in question runs maybe at the track 16.4@86mph at best if I was able to launch (driver error) and didn't get a 2.3 and lots of wheel hop might have been even then at best low 16 or so... so that just goes to show how much worse an n/a eclipse is.

 

sorry forgot to say mine was far from stock and some how i seen that comming... lol and like i said earlyer long as it WAS stock he would have it... i'm not saying they are fast cars stock, even the turbo'd ones, and yes i have driving both 1st gen N/A and turbo along with 2nd gen of both

 

even modified still being n/a I do'nt see them being THAT quick

 

a gutted eclipse on the bottle and a fully built motor and you couldn't see it being quick??? ok... but i'd like not to argue..

 

a gutted eclipse with a built street motor OFF the bottle I don't see being that quick.

but if you want to talk about non-N/A applications and use a bottle that is another story

 

N/A means no power adder, and nitrous is a power adder... A built gutted nitroused anything can and will be fast. But your average street N/A Eclipse isnt going to make me say anything other than... "wheres the turbo?"!
