How do i compare to an 04 Mustang?
well lemme see,
this guy my girlfriend works with is a real jerk, he just bought a stock 04 mustang with the 4.6L non supercharged and stickshift, he keeps talking crap about my car, and I havent said anything back to him, well my car aint even running yet, but i was wondering how much of a chance i have against him if i decide to race him.
83 Sports Coupe
5.7L L98 V8 - Carb'd (aftermarket intake & carb)
performance ignition system
stock 700r4 trans
3.23 open diff
stock exhaust manifolds
y-pipe and cat, nothing past it
i dont wanna talk crap if i cant back it up ya know?

open diff stock exhaust manifolds and stall are killing you right now.
Address those issues and i dont think youll have too much of a problem assuming it runs right.

Well basically a stock l98 with 3.23s and a stockish converter, you should be running low 15s high 14s. He should be running in the low 14s range. If you do some headers and some other boltons it would be a close race.

an L98 with an open diff?!??!?&$$&!? You'd lose before your car would actually move forward!
Jk. But really besides getting your car running without traction an L98 is useless.

Re: How do i compare to an 04 Mustang?
Stock L98 running 15's? Mine pulled a 14.7 on it's first run out before ANY tuning with a 2.73 open diff and a stock stall. His is also carbed so it should be a hair faster than a TPI car if he gets decent gears under it. Get 3.42's or 3.73's and a posi ASAP. The way things stand now you will get axe murdered. Also the header comment is dead nuts on. That was the only real mod I had done to my L98 when it pulled the 14.7. I bought a cheapo set of Flowtech shorties that I later replaced with Hedman long tubes (hint: buy the good headers right off the bat!). This same motor now does 13.5's with 3.27 gears, Th350 trans and a 3k stall.

Just jumping on the bandwagon here.
I ran a 14.8 with a bad 2.28 60 ft, leaking injectors, 2.77 rear, old ignition system, and it was stock. Thread
