92 RS vs newer grand prix
Tonite a few kids in a grand prix rode by my place and revved at me and my friends I didn't hear a exhaust system but I either heard a intake or supercharger(highly doubtful). So they were a few house down about to turn a corner so I started up my 92 RS and tached it up to about 5000...most likely pissed off my neighboors since it was about 9:30...anyway they asked if I wanted to race and I said no since my clutch pedal isn't hooked up yet then they threw they old 305's blow comment at me and drove off...turns out a few mins later the cops came by askin if we'd seen them....anyway if my car was able to be driven and I raced them would i have blew them away or have had my a$$ handed to me......the parts i have on my car are
Ported and Polished cylinder heads(not sure what cc they are),Crane Cam rocker arms,Edelbrock Performer intake Manifold(2101),Edelbrock 600cfm Carb,MSD 6al ignition box,MSD Pro Billet Distributor ,MSD Blaster 3 Coil,MSD Ignition Wires,3.73 posi rear,Hedman headers, flowmaster 40, t56, stage 3 clutch

Re: 92 RS vs newer grand prix
if it was a GTP Grand Prix, then that was a supercharger that u heard. and if so, it will more than likely beat your car.

a cam and I could comfortably say you'd probably take them. Get the cam. You've got everything else really.

Re: 92 RS vs newer grand prix
Just a quick comment on your setup; ditch the edelbrock 600 carb and get a mechanical qjet or a holley double pumper, those edelbrocks are a step down in performance from a qjet. A good qjet will easily outperform that edelbrock. Only other comment I have is that its cool you got the T56 behind that 305. Sure wish I could find a good deal on one.
yup, I agree with 86firebird350 above, if it was a GTP you prolly would got your a*s handed to ya. I have raced one in my 90 Bird with 305 and T5. And it wasnt even a race. More like a slaghter. By the time I hit 30 it was about 4 cars ahead and at least 60mph and quickly walking away. And it was very depressing cause I had just finished racing a wustang 5.0 and winning and was all confident and ready. And to make it worse, it was a chick driving the GTP. Only thing I have in my defense is that my car had 190K on the clock and the GTP still had the sticker in the window. Whether or not it was supercharged? Yeah probably, but I wasnt beside it long enough to hear it before it was gone...lol
only other thing that walked off on me like that was a big huge a*s Ford deisel which I think was a F350 or 450, and it also made short work of my bird, but at least with it I KNEW it had a turbo cause I could still hear it with the truck 100 ft ahead of me, plus the billowing black smoke.
And before anyone says my Bird musta been slow, it was basically stock but was still running 15.5 1/4 mile which is about what one would expect from a 305 if not a bit faster. and no I dont got no time slip, I have a g-meter and thats how I know.
Havent really raced anyone in my 83 TA yet? Guess I'm waiting till I get my LT1 installed in a few weeks...lol

Re: 92 RS vs newer grand prix
(to above poster) Yeah, you've probably got a high 15sec to low 16sec car. A Grand Prix GT should be running somewhere in the mid 15's, and the GTP's were more mid 14s. Pretty easy to get them into the 13s with little work.
To original poster...hard to say. Being a TBI motor originally, you've got that tiny cam in there which isn't doing your car any favors for power. I imagine they still would've had you, even with their car full. By how much? Who knows, maybe not much.

Re: 92 RS vs newer grand prix
Okay, maybe that was a little exaggerated, but it still has the stock cam, and that Edelbrock carb isn't doing anything for power either. Also doesn't have a tire or suspension setup listed at all, so he'll probably spin more than that GTP will too.
A nice cam would be something like a 212/218 or a 218/224. I wouldn't go much higher than that if you want some power low end power with that 305.

Re: 92 RS vs newer grand prix
I have an upgraded rear suspension, not sure what kinda though it was installed right before I bought the car in 06, and i have regular street 16" tires...so what should I go with an l98 cam or LT1? and I've been highly considering selling my edelbrock for a holley double pumper

Re: 92 RS vs newer grand prix
Your 305HO L69 had a noticeably larger camshaft than his TBI shortblock has in it. The L98 and LT1 cams are very similar, so if you want to do something like that, whichever you can find easier/cheaper. I'd go with something a bit bigger though, like a 212/218. That will be more worth your time to be swapping.

I was referring to the guy above with the 305HO, saying that he has a much better cam than you do.

Re: 92 RS vs newer grand prix
Just thought I'd throw in my 10 cents worth. My daughter has an 06 Grand Prix 200 hp 3.8 and her's will real stay close to my modied L03. My buddy has an 07 G/P GT that will blow my doors off. 260 hp Turbo 3.8. I was at Byron Drags a couple of month ago and a GXP with a 5.3 V8 made a couple of runs in the low 14's, and he wasn't much of a driver. It hauled donkey once he got it going. What I'm saying is, better have a good running 305 to take one of them on. My 305 run dang good for what it is...620 cfm Modified TBI, Edelbrock 3704 TBI Intake, Mild Cam? (Runs too smooth to be much) Going to install LT1). Have one already. Reworked stock heads. Open element Air Cleaner. Larger H/0 TPI Exhaust (Maybe Headers later). Power Chip. 342 Gears. 700R4 Trans

Re: 92 RS vs newer grand prix
My mild LG4 will just beat the latest generation with the supercharged 3800, I put myself at about a 14.6, will be trying to get to the track at least once this year. Don't underestimate the Grand-Prix, they mod up pretty easy, and exhaust, supercharger pulley change, and boost will bring them well into the 13's.

Sorry about that. I meant Supercharged.
Your right, they run pretty good for a nice car.
