89 IROC Z vs. 2000 V6
Okay guys, this is theoretical. This kid at my school had a 2000 V6 and he claims his camaro would rape mine in a race, I disregard the stupid comment because I know my car would demolish his. But anyways, how close of a race would it be, mines an 89 350 TPI IROC Z, totally stock except custom straight pipes with a dump under the passenger seat, his 3.8(i think) is completely stock. Anyways guys thanks b/c i really need to shut this kid up once it warms up

Re: 89 IROC Z vs. 2000 V6
His 3.8L stock is a high 14 second car at best, and if you have the dual cat exhaust and 3.27 rear end, you're a mid 14's car. If you have the single cat exhaust and 2.77 rear end, you're a high 14 second car. It'll come down to who gets a better launch and who's car is in a better state of tune. I'd put my money on you.

Re: 89 IROC Z vs. 2000 V6
the 3.8's are surprisly fast. they are exellent motors.
but, yours being a 250 hp 350, and im assuming its got a posi in it, which the 3.8 doesn t, you will get him from a dig, your 1-3 gears are a hell of alot stronger than his, but go any farther than that and it migyht actually be a close race

The 3.8 could have posi as well as 3.42 gears if it does he is gonna suprise you out of the hole and you'll have a hard time regaining it.

i'll put my money on you but don't be suprised if the 3.8 gives you some trouble.. the 3.8 is an amazing motor.

i really doubt he beat a new 350 unless he modded his 3.8.... plus the t5 with a 350 isn't a good idea anyways.....

A 90 RS with a stockish 350 TBI is a 200-210 HP engine at best, with way less torque than a 350 TPI. No wonder the RS got smoked.

My 350 tbi is rated at 210hp , and 310 ft. tq. Stock... thats not a HUGE amount less than a TPI but still less.

updated: today it was finally nice out so i gave him a call. we headed over to this abandoned warehouse parking lot thing and he challenged me, im guessing this parking lot was a half mile long, just estimating. i took ur guys advice, warmed my shoes and we took off. i had a better take off, and about 50 feet in, he started to catch up, then i could feel mine shifting and it was all history from there. i beat him by a good 2 car lengths in the estimated 1/2 mile. he claimed where he took off from was wet, which i laughed at. but i gave him the benefit of the doubt, so then i offered him a chance at redemption, i told him i would take off from this supposed "wet area". so long story short, even if it was a tad moist, i still R.A.P.E.D him the second race. lol it was awesome guys u woulda been proud. o and btw the second race was even more off a beatdown, probably 3-4 car lengths ahead of him.

funny story actually, so i am sitting at a stop light right, and i got my music up pretty loud, but i can still hear this fart can exhaust next to me,so i roll down my window and see what this eurotrash wants, he continues to make bowel movement noises. so i go hold on gimme a sec, i turn off my music drop it into neutral and start revving my engine while my cut out was un capped mind you, he proceeds to get this "OH S.H.I.T." look on his face, and i start to smile. then as the opposite direction light goes yellow, i look at him again and it looks like he just crapped his pants, then casually pretends his phone is ringing and he cant race, then signals right and gets away from me hella quick. it was PRICELESS im telling you it was freakin hilarious the way the little B.I.T.C.H squirmed. lol anyone else got stories?

i gotta 99 stock 3800 camaro as my daily driver, tons of fun, never expected that from a v6 camaro.... i bet the dumb kid u raced manualy shifted his auto tranny, if he would have let the tranny do all the shiftin i bet it would have been a lil closer and alot scarier for ya... lol and i too have an 89 iroc just droped my new engine into if your ever in texas ill run you ROC vs mine....o and on the tuner stories, yeah in my engines class u should have seen the faces of the tuner kids when my teacher on the first day explained why a 4 banger is not a good high horsepower platform (smaller lighter parts that break easier) i belive a few of his exact words were "at 500hp a honda motor is working its but of, but a small block chevy is just starting to break a sweat." (really funny too cause my teacher is a big ford guy and hates on "generic motors" all the time...

I have a good story for you. I was driving in my 1988 GTA, and I was on my way to get a new muffler. My old muffler was the stock factory one, and it got plugged up, so I took it off. I was at a red light, with the engine off, because I saw a cop go by. While I was waiting, this kid in a Honda Civic with a huge wing and fart cannon starts revving at me and asks if I want to race. I start my car up (remember, no muffler) and he gets a scared look on his face. When the light turned green, I floored it, spun a little, but rocketed past the Civic with no problems. When he caught back up he asked if I was stock and I said yes except no muffler, and he believed me.

You never know when you're going to run into a fast one. There are quite a few 12 second civics here. Last summer a civic hatch started messing with me but we never got a chance to run them. Then I find it is a low 12 second car on pump gas, and that night he had race gas in it with the boost turned up.

Re: 89 IROC Z vs. 2000 V6
Thanks for translating. It was worth the read, I didn’t bother with that story in “stock” form. Amazing what an education can do for you, even on these silly boards.
I got a chance to race my stock 89 305 Formula TBI against a new S2000. I was very hesitant to push him because I thought I would have my shorts a bit torn up. Surprisingly it was pretty much a dead heat. I think we both could have launched better (neither of us were out to race off the line and both rear wheel drive). We both let the cars run in first and second gear. About ½ way through third I let up for a couple of reasons. Clearly I was not going to show him up and we were in a 45 zone. My 18 year old stock car did very well against a supposed 240hp new car though.

I would have guessed that you would have beat him. You car has more hp and weighs less not that hard to figure out, unless you car is out of tune.
BTW heating up a street tire really will not do anything in terms of performance.

Back to the original thread - there is a guy at our local cruise spot with a late 90's 3.8 T5 car always trying to race me, the lil 305 ruins him every time, dig or roll.
