those supras can put down some crazy #'s with turbos, so if he can drive you will have a race for sure

stock internals on a 2j can take almost 1000hp, you have a very MILD 355 and your going against a moded supra.how much boost he's running? he will beat you imo. you might get him off the line but thats about it, if he's any good at driving.

Re: my 89 bird vs a 94 supra??
yah thats what ive been hearing l8ely he drives the only supra in town and i wanted to see what i can do with him the race is set up for saturday night..
also my bird has aside from its signiture
full msd 6al, wires blaster 2 coil cap rotor control module the whole ignition kit. headers 3 inch header back
and it was rebuilt with speed pro 2.5 cc domes and a scat lightweight forged crank. its serpantine underdrive with electric water pump so i have very little accesory drag.... its got a ws6 ram air and the front fenders are fiberglass i weighed in at 3025 i looked the supra up hes making some heavy 3600 lbs???
bein i got a manual valve body.. from what ppl tell me as for our cars its gonna be down to whoever is the better driver..
he is only boosting 8psi and he is an "ok" driver i hear he misses 3rd often cuz he gets too antsy im hopin that happens when i run him.

generally the twin turbo supras dont have as much power as a single turbo, the high horespower 1000+hp cars are usually one huge turbo, but a twin turbo supra is usaually sittin around 600hp or so.

Your car seems to have been done nicely. It should be an interesting race. Let us know how it goes. However, if I am not mistaken, you seem to be running an open diff. Wouldn't you want a posi in the back?

Re: my 89 bird vs a 94 supra??
what? i guess you dont mean stock...u are correct most big bad supras use one big turbo but u have to suffer the turbo lag....but anyways a twin turbo supra puts out 320 at the flywheel stock, translates to about 13.7s stock, the supra u mentioned has larger than stock turbos, onless hes upgraded the fuel system thats where he is limited...so he might be only 8 spi but at a greater volume of air....bottom line is that bad boy is probably putting down around 320 to the ground now...im seeing low 13s....have fun but im sad to say my money is on the supra....

Re: my 89 bird vs a 94 supra??
Do not get discouraged. Run him in the quarter mile and run him from a dig. In fact, I would recommend running him at a local track if you can, this way both of you would learn something about your cars and perhaps driving abilities. Plus the race would be conducted in a controlled environment, away from traffic and such.
I think your car is making some nice power and it would be a good race. 300 + hp and even more torque at the wheels is nothing to sneeze at. I would run him from a stop first, see how you do. If then he insists, and you are willing, you can try the 30 mph roll.
Like I said, it would be a good race and let us know how it turns out. All of these are speculations and you are only going to find out if you race him. As long as the guy you are racing is a decent guy, and he is as much interested in seeing what his car would do, you have nothing to lose, even if you lost the race. Just my

no a roll on that car is suicide for you, race him from a dig so you have a chance and hope he lags like hell lol thats the only hope you got and you still might get the shaft lol that car with t3/t4 hybrids should be bad plus assuming supporting mods like exhaust, manual boost controler and stock he has 550 cc injectors dude if he has done anything for the fuel your screwed the toyota supras are beasts and they arent cheap, if you have 25000 to 75000 grand to spend on a 10-15 year old toyota your gonna mod it just some food for thought but yea get a vid

Re: my 89 bird vs a 94 supra??
well i just got some feul changes that may help me out saturday (just got my check so i figure i should spend it all on the car)
http://www.jegs.com/p/Holley/761911/10002/-1/11937
and i upgraded from the 670 cfm street avenger carb to a 770 cfm
also i just finished making a ram air kit to match to my carb for my ws6 hood they should be here friday and ill have them tuned by the race saturday night.. i was using an old 80's holly contender manifold and i figured id upgrade
and ya know other than the ehxuast and the turbos im pretty sure his car is stock its not even got a front mount hes still using the stock side mount intercooler... still im not gonna underestimate..
we have 50 bucks on the race with the bug vs his supra but the firebird race is just for fun

Re: my 89 bird vs a 94 supra??
y did u get a bigger carb? the 670 was probably the best fit for the engine, a 770 cfm carb is pretty big, like for a wild 350 or a decent 383....u might have just shot yourself in the foot, the three most commone mistakes people make when "upgrading" their engine is 1. TOO BIG OF A CARB 2. TOO BIG OF CAM 3. WRONG INTAKE..... my money is definiatly on the supra.....

Re: my 89 bird vs a 94 supra??
i made those mistakes.. my first motor, a 383 with camel back heads, i put an 800cfm edelbrock on it with a eps intake(its one step higher than the regular performer).. then after some other stuff, i threw in a 306S cam.. .592/.555 lift, 260* @.050.. all on 10:1 compression.. car ran like a dog.. at one point, with my new mighty demon 750, i jetted wrong and struggled to get high 12's.. now, after 2 years of tuning and READING, i'm at a 11.65 spinning the tires with a hurt motor on 7 cylinders.. basically same stuff, just more compression and a bit of tuning.. oh, my shifting got better too.. powershift anyone??
after seein your numbers at the ground, i say you get him.. or its gonna be a really good race either way.. roll or dig.. plus, why stress.. its for fun..

Re: my 89 bird vs a 94 supra??
i most likely wont be putting the carb on yet my plans for this summer are getting a wiend 142 street charger i kept the comp ratio down with 70cc heads so i could charge later on so im in the process of getting everything i need now.. the 770 street evenger is more or less for then than now i had the money so i got it and the new commander manifold will be going on my camaro witch will be a daily driver again once the bird is blown

Re: my 89 bird vs a 94 supra??
it hasnt seemed a problem yet.. im copying the build on my firebird almost exactly from my fathers blown chevelle its got a mild 355 exept instead of aluminum rpm heads he has 186 camel pumps and he is using a 770 street avenger on top of a roots style weiend charger.. he hasnt had a single problem yet and his chevelle runs down the track like a bat outa hell and no negative affects..

Re: my 89 bird vs a 94 supra??
blow through cards are for boosted apps like turbos or centrifugal superchargers that push air through the carb.. a roots type will suck air through it.. a properly tuned standard carb will do just fine..
