Alright so my friend has this civic Si, and he thinks he can beat my car b/c his is so much lighter. I don't think he's right but now he wants to go to Great Lakes Dragway in WI to race. I'm gonna go, so what can I expect.

Specswhat i know at least)

Me:
1989 IROC-Z 350 TPI. Mines an automatic. w/ hooker 2055's and 3 inch magnaflow catback, no cat, gutted airbox, BFG g-force 245/z50/16 I think thats it for my car...

His:
2007 Civic SI. 6 speed manual stock. He claims he ran high 14's in the fall.

I think I am going to rape him, but I don't know b/c i've never raced mine at a track. O and he also has an EVO he says he wants to race me, but I don't know much about foreign POS cars so could someone enlighten me?

unless he's driving down a strip with a 5% grade that stock civic will not hit high 14's. you should have no issues with the honda unless your way out of tune. as for the evo I wouldn't call that a "pos import" as it would be a good probability that it will beat you with no problem

Just to play it safe, change the plugs and check your ignition timing. Then if time allows, order a AFPR from Tpis.com and then you should waste him. I'm not talking, a fender or a half a car, I'm talking at least 3 car lengths with you spinning coming out of the hole! Remember too that suspension can work wonders to your car. Subframes, and lower control arms would be quick and easy and with a bit more time, slap on a torque arm so you don't spin off the line.

If you want to run for money bet on the race with the Honda, unless you totally sleep at the light or break something, you should spank him no problem

Don't bet against the Evo, he'll hand you you're a$$

Some of you must not go to track much but a new civic SI is easily capable of high 14s i've seen them do it. They can also run 17s, just like your average 3rd gen. If you know how to drive i think you can take him.

Is that question, because I didnt see a question mark and I was wondering?

Anyway, You might want to go down to the local strip and learn something. Like Stevo said that Si WILL indeed click off high 14's.

Re: 89 IROC v. 2007 Civic SI
well the local track is a hour drive and plus there's something goofy with that track as times for vehicles are always slower than than other tracks. usually ls1's with some bolt ons run mid 13's. stock ls1 run low 14's to high 13's. I've seen 91-92 L98 camaros run 14.7's all day and that was a nice cool day. when I had my stock lo3 it would run low 17's. I know the track is not on sea level but the elevation can't be that bad.

And I based my facts of road and track as the had the civic si at 15.2 @ 93.4
and seeing how they've been driving and testing longer than most of us I believe there report over here say. Also I'll believe they can launch the civic better than some trash talking kid, I may be wrong maybe this kid is the best rt drag racer ever but I'd put money on road and track over this kid

and that was part question part joke

Magazines?
Magazine articles can vary as much as .5 from mag to mag with the same car. I know I've seen 14's with my own 2 eyes so be my guest and believe road and track.

Re: 89 IROC v. 2007 Civic SI
Im thinking you will totally destroy him as my lumina z34 and i hunt civics as they usually have a mind set that they are the badest thing on four wheels as a matter of fact over the 4th of July i killed no less then 3 of them and they werent stock but close to it nother words i dont think the z34 can take a third gen but ive never raced one and if i can beat a civic im sure you can. As for the evo id be careful if i were you as they can be evil and all wheel drive can be a bitch .

Re: 89 IROC v. 2007 Civic SI
You SHOULD take the SI, the evo SHOULD take you. This is what should happen but there are too many variables as with any race, so the only way to find out for sure is to go out and RACE.

I am going to say you have the civic, but the subaru will beat you. Hard to hear but what can you do? its all wheel drive and probably lighter too, not to mention some of those put out impressive HP numbers. Might as well try and see how you do. Make it a fun race.
