Who do you guys think will win? Formula vs. camaro

Supposed to be racing a friend of mine

I have a 89 Formula, 305 TPI w/ 5 speed. Its supposed to be rated at 230hp/300tq. I have the 9 bolt 3.45 posi gears, WS6 suspension, magnaflow catback (sucks), throttle body coolant passage bypassed, delco plugs, K&N air filter, some kind of aftermarket chip. I think thats it, its just like it was when i bought it, I have only done the bypass, new plugs, cap & rotor, and removed smog pump/air lines in manifolds. Also i have the Federal SS595 tires, they seem to grip pretty good

EDIT: My car also has the bolt on subframe connectors (planning on getting a set of weld in ones), and i think it has the airfoil in the throttle body, not sure exactly what it looks like, but there is something extra there so im sure thats what it is

His is a 87 Camaro w/ olds 307 and 700R4 and 3.23 gears. 5A HEADS,
K&N Air Cleaner, 670cfm Holley, Msd 6al, COMP CAM 268H .454/.454, Edelbrock Intake. He has a set of headers and 3.73 gears but i don't know if they will be installed before the race, and im not sure what kind of tires he is running

So who do you guys think will win? Im new to f bodies and really have no clue what my 305 will do in the 1/4

You know, the bolt-in subframe connectors can be welded in once mounted. Just take out your carpet and take it to a muffler shop or something and have them weld them to the frame and floor pans.

Olds 307?? That's just weird. Just no telling what could be modified in there...
Who puts Olds motors in Chevys?

olds and chevy 307's are both sbc's... but on a side note i would take a 442 motor and put it into an f body in a heartbeat

Olds 307s are not a sbc, the vin 9 442 307 had 180 hp, the regular 307 had 160 or 170 i can't remember

well i guess ya learn something new every day. all i know is there is a 74 cutless or some type in my dads scrap yard with a numbers matching 307 and while i was tearing it apart it made absolutely no difference from an sbc. is the olds motor your talking about a different design motor?

the olds 307 was only built from 1980 through 1990, its is a different motor than a SBC. It was probably a Olds 350 in the 74 cutlass

if you want to know a little about Olds 307s you can check out this link
http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofe307.htm

I just started playing with F bodies, I have always been a Olds man lol. Had to sell my cutlass i had been building and got a great deal on my firebird. Trying to learn about them now

Re: Who do you guys think will win? Formula vs. camaro

His cam isn't bad, but the Olds 307 isn't near as effecient of a design as an SBC (I.e: Heaver, doesn't perform as well with equal mods).

If his heads have any work beyond stock, it'll be a close race, and he might have you. If he beats you out of the hole, you'll reel him in slowly but surely. I think you'll edge him, but by close to moderate margin.

Olds 307 is a boat anchor - probably as bad as a Chevy 307 and not as good as a 305. Olds 442 did have 307 Olds in the 1980's - wonder why they stopped making them?
