Re: 305 power??????

If its an lg4 those made 155 hp, and ran mid 16's. If it is a l69 ho it has 190 hp and will run mid 15's on average. This one will have the dual snorkle air cleaner w/ 5.0 decals.

Re: 305 power??????

If it's an 84, its not an Iroc or an RS. 1985 was the first year for the IROC. I think 86 was the first year for the RS, but don't quote me. If its the ausi-9bolt, you probably mean 3.45s.

If your car does have all that, and only that (meaning, power robbing non HO factory exhaust), and you can drive it pretty good, you should do low 15's high 14's. With full exhaust, maybe mid-low 14's.

Get some nice headers and a catback or at least a cutout, and take it to the track.

With those mods you should be low 15's, maybe alittle better depending on the tune.

Re: 305 power??????

Not knowing of what was ever done with that motor it isnt very accurate on what 1/4 times you will run, first the carb on there isnt stock, im not sure of the stock cam specs, but possibly the motor had a swap, still im not sure, i guess run it down the track and let us know, you may have something you dont know in that 305.

Word of warning there young guy. That tranny was designed to handle about half the power that engine is now putting out. Take it easy on the burn outs and second gear shifts or you'll be seeing most of the gears roll out from under the car one day. Gets expensive fast. Sounds like a fun car!

Re: 305 power??????

You have a Sport Coupe with a LG4 and some mods. I'd say it'll run hi 15's.

IROC's started in the '70's. It wasn't until '85 that it was a model.

Those aren't 'mods' they're downgrades. The engine would have been originally equipped with a computer controlled qjet that would certainly outperform (and outflow) an old Carter. It would also have had a computer controlled distributor (and it would be worth checking to ensure that it has been swapped for a mechanical dist with vacuum advance).

The LG4 would be identified by an "H" in the eighth place in the VIN. If it was originally an L69 the only remaining pieces left might be the larger exhaust and the electric fan.

Re: 305 power??????

its a l69 and how do u figure there not mods cause that makes no sense at all and if u no about the tbi u would no that the tbi chokes the motor up so a carb gives it more power and some more potential so i dont see what ur talkin about

Re: 305 power??????

L69 was a carbed 305, not a TBI. It could flow 800+cfm. You put a 650 cfm carb...you do the math. Computer controlled distributor is better than a vacuum advance distributor.

You sound like a kid who has been talking to an old timer. Fuel injection bad, carb good.

Re: 305 power??????

Guys lets not mock him now, if theres nuthin to be said but negative feedback toward the thread just dont reply back at all, cause then its just gonna be another bickering argument. And i dont think he was talking about his l69 motor being tbi, i have no idea where that came from, but tbi isnt a very good flowing injection setup stock anyway, and ive driven the tbi cars, and 2 carbed third gens, i dont see a difference between the 2 until the tbi reaches higher rpm then the carb feels a little better. And we dont even know this dude, so dont judge him when we dont even know him. He didnt know much about the car in the first place, so what he has is probably what he has to live with and learn.

He was being sarcastic about the fuel injection bad, carb good.

Anyway, to the OP...FFS it's spell Iroc. Also, I don't think the 9-bolts came in 84, I thought they started in '85. It sounds like you have a Frankenstein of a car.

I'm sorry, I don't usually post unless I have something at least moderately positive to add but sometimes grammar and lack of punctuation makes my eyes bleed

As everyone else is saying, IROCs came out in 1985, and ended in 1990.

Re: 305 power??????

If the motor came out of an 89 it'd be neither, it'd be a LO3. Basically a boat anchor You're looking at low 15's with a 20mph tail wind.

Not anymore. You could check the cylinder heads casting numbers to determine whether they're swirl ports, check for one or two piece rms and maybe pull a pushrod to see if it's a roller motor. Other than that all bets are off as to what is actually inside and whether or not it was installed in that motor at the factory.

Neither the LO3 nor the LG4 are completely without merit. Both have potential to become spirited motors with bolt-on mods. I would stop well short of any machine work to a 305 though.
