Re: Fastest you've gone
Lets see... my 03 Cobrawith factory tune would shut off at 155, ( like hitting a brick wall in fifth). My old 89 5.0 GT was 157 in 4th with 2.73s and a few hundred RPM left before the fuel shutoff ( well over 100K miles on that one). The 99 Hayabusa @ 185 speedo indicated comin outa 5th( @ 10,750 rpm) goin into 6th. I had enough! Let off Lol. That being said, all that done on straight highway, no traffic, frequently traveled. You have to use your head and think safe and be safe! Carelessness will cause problems

89rs 2.8 700r4.
Gps indicated 129mph on a long open stretch, wasnt quick to get there but it got there. No traffic, when I flew past the highway patrol he flashed his lights, but never pulled out. Come to find out they arent allowed to chase over 110mph. I was quick to get off the next exit, lol. Radio travels much faster than 129.
Been awhile but I still havent cleared the top speed on my gps, but now I am putting a turbo on it. Not gonna lie, this car was smooth as glass at that speed, I was surprised cause I was waiting for the high speed shake.
Thats as fast as I have ever gone in any car. The Honda accord, cut out at 112 when the governor kicked in, lol. That little 4banger got there quick too, lol.

Re: Fastest you've gone
If you get a chevy 350 with a good cam and heads, reaching 129 mph is nothing. With the hotcam, going from 70 to 129 mph is under 10 seconds quick.

Besides, the TT 3.4/3500 will do 10 sec in the quarter. Thats a fast v6. There is someone with a 3900 turbo v6 doing 9s in the quarter. But this is a thread on how fast you have driven your thirdgen. Not whats faster, a v6 or a v8.
Back to topic.

Re: Fastest you've gone
The fastest I've gone with my current setup is actually 130 mph. I won't dare test the limits of my H rated tires, which are rated at 130mph. It's quick from 70 to 130 mph for those who are interested and not for Wille's interest.

I didn't say I hit 175 ... I said according to gear ratio tire size and rpm it would technically do175 according to mathematical calculations at 6000 rpm

Re: Fastest you've gone
Update: GPS indicated 141MPH before I shut down turning 4700rpm. It was slowing up pretty good above 135. I'm thinking a different carb is in need, but could easily reach 150 as is given enough room on a non-humid day, which is rare around here.

Re: Fastest you've gone
Not that anyone really cares but 1991 sleeper youre full of ****. Nooooooo way a 600 is hitting 180 +. My RC51 tops at 173 or something close iirc. Not saying I did that but that is the claimed top speed. As a matter of fact stock they will not redline in 6th, too much gear. Any how in my GTA about 125-130 area. On the RC51 141 or 142. Lemme tell ya you are really playing with scary stuff at anywhere near those speeds.

I never said anything about actually going that fast .. Fastest I've had it is 125 on GPS and that was at 4000 rpm in 5th gear 2000 more rpm to go till redline so u do the math ... And once again I guarantee it will do 150+ .. But I'm not even going to attempt it without some new steering components
Edit: Oh and yes the CBR would do 180 until I totalled it ...but that's according to factory speedometer which I've heard can b off 10+ mph ... My roommates 08 ninja 600 would do about the same on top end but I'd bust his *** every time in 1/8th ... At the time no other 600 I came across could touch the CBR in 1/8th ... And I've ran em all Suzuki , ninja , r6 etc . ..... And yes I had mine topped out many many times .. So until u actually get the ***** up to top urs out don't tell me what they can or can't do ... And yes ur right my 600 wouldn't redline in 6th bone stock I had about 800rpm to go before redline and about 400 rpm after redline till the rev limiter kicked in but exhaust and a tune fixed that little problem ... And most 1000+cc bikes have no problem doing 200+
91' bird 305 TBI T-5, trick flow 175 cc heads, 4.10 gears, lots of suspension upgrades. 24mpg @ 2500rpm hwy. 8.80@ 84mph 1/8th on street tires... 8.000's soon

My '92 Has run to 154 on GPS with only an SLP chip. For most L98 cars 140+ is a walk in the park if properly tuned and maintained.

Re: Fastest you've gone
I tried to get my car to do over a hundred again, after taking it on the highway for a computer relearn. Damn transmission! I either don't have 4th gear or my problematic detent cable is acting up again. I think I see a 4l60e in my future. I am so done with this set up. FYI I am on my 7th or 8th tranmission, I keep taking it back before the warranty expires .

83 Chevy G20....About 140 one night racing a 6.0 SS Silverado
97 Chevy Express Van.....About 115 on my way home from the casino and a couple of my buddies asked "can you drive faster, lol" Had alot more in it but the guy in the passenger seat was already white knuckled as hell.
06 Hemi Ram.......About 150 racing a vette, let off when the vette driver started getting stupid and almost took out a car and the concrete divider.
12 Titan........150+ on an empty tollroad that was just opened, just to do it. Passed a state trooper in a Tahoe, he didn't even move.

OK i'll give a little more info,, 1968 Fury III FastBack, with an escaped Experimental 440 Wedge. It had a frigin HUGE carbruator - never seen one like it since. cast iron ram horn exhaust manifolds that came up higher than the valve covers. the 440 crusers could not catch it!!! and then my dad sold it for $100 (beer money) while I was in boot camp!!! the guy that bought it pulled the motor and put it in his 69 Road Runner, then procedded to set a new track record in his class with it!!
143 in a 1997 GTP as well

I know this is resurrecting an ancient thread, but I can't resist
ALLEGEDLY about 135-140 after several miles of downhill highway, somewhere in an around 3500rpm+ in 5th. 5200rpm in 4th is about 120, kept going for a long time. Looked down and my temp gauge was pegged so I figured I would let her cool off. Mighty mouse power lol.

You win!
I used to race a Grand National on the MA Turnpike when my 87 was still new - we would leave the toll booths at the same time and he would head off out in front of me but I would stay in it, shifting from 3rd to 4th at 75mph. Eventually I would catch him and watch him punch his steering wheel as I walked on by. I just googled Grand National Speed Limiter and it says 124, I don't remember looking at the speedometer at the time.
Since then I've gone 100+ in any number of cars and trucks - try pulling a triple digit speed in a F350 Super Crew Long wheel base! That's four tons of fun that would test Newton's laws if anything ever broke!

More than 750 mph while towing a Winnebago Grand Tour on a U-Haul tow dolly with the windows down. With the seats laid back my bare foot was out the window the breeze was a bit ticklish on my foot but I could handle it. My other foot was steering that way my hands were free. One hand to do swipes on Tinder while the other to smoke. Oh, course I did this at night with my sun glasses on through a residential area. 1982 Firebird with an Iron Duke motor with no modifications.
OR
From a stand still on street tires and 1 Mile later 149.6mph in 1988 Firebird with a few car modifications whichever seems more plausible.

Re: Fastest you've gone
More than 750 mph while towing a Winnebago Grand Tour on a U-Haul tow dolly with the windows down. With the seats laid back my bare foot was out the window the breeze was a bit ticklish on my foot but I could handle it. My other foot was steering that way my hands were free. One hand to do swipes on Tinder while the other to smoke.

Sure we do. You know that bolt on your car that you need to remove for a common service procedure but you stripped the head using a torx on it because you didn't know it was triple square and no hardware store in North America carries the right tool? Hilarious!

And how about the plastic nut that is set with red Loctite and there is no way to remove it without destroying the nut. Oh man, that one is a knee slapper!!! I learned that trick from one of the funniest guys I ever met.

And let's not forget the old timers that came before us. You've got to give props to the guy that used plastic screws to hold together the interior of a 3rd gen. I can only imagine how fun it was to work in that office.
Man.... those were the good old days before the humorless Japanese started designing good cars and took all the fun out of it.
