Re: Fastest you've gone
so true.
German cars I've driven (3, 5 series, Merc CLKs, E-Class etc.) are probably less aerodynamc than my GTA but so much more confidence inspiring above 100mph.
My GTA is about 2" lower than factory and all tracked up and straight. It's also heavy as or heavier than the abovementioned German cars. I'd usually think that the recipe for high speed stability. But still they are so queit and planted over 100 compared to the GTA

Re: Fastest you've gone
Not sure on several of the cars. The speedo stops at 110 in the RS and it blows by that with no problem. Same for the IROC and its ability to outrun the speedo.
The GTA has been to 130 according to the digital dash but I don't trust that number as the speedo gears are close enough to the right ones for rear end gears but it does read low compared to other cars with calibrated speedos.

Re: Fastest you've gone
Got to 124mph in the lil Turbo 3.1L V6 Camaro Rs a week ago then got a tad scared of intake temps and such. It had a little more speed in it I'm sure!! Thats the fastest Ive ever taken it. Won't take it that high again though,
By the way my motor was spinning 5650rpms at this speed!
Heres it to 110mph (about 17 secoonds)I added the video so you know im not Bullshitttting about the 124+mph. I know its not proof but its better then nothing. Since its a V6 some ppl might not believe me.

I've been up to 110 in my Z28 when I had to slow down because of traffic and not 10 seconds later a highway patrol car passed me doing 100, But the fastest I've been is in a C5 Vette I got up to 130 before I panicked and slowed down

Re: Fastest you've gone
The fastest I've gone is 163 in my 84 T/A. I originally had a factory 3.73 gear until the limited slip unit came apart. With the 3.73 unit, GM rated the top speed at 135 mph. I installed a 2.73 unit to drive the car and had the speedometer recalibrated. I then took it out on the interstate early in the morning. My engineer buddy did time and distance on the run and figured that I was doing 163 mph. Car was very smooth during the whole run. I've since replaced the 2.73 gears and won't see that speed again. Not that I'd ever attempt that again.

Car is not stock, the engine was replaced with a 350. With the car in overdrive I could do 80 and the rpms were barely at 2000.

The last 2 years of the L98 F-body can reach 155 mph and still has a lot more left to go. Top speed is really around 165 mph.

Re: Fastest you've gone
Lime Rock Park last year at a track day. My GTA with 4:10's in the back and gps speed tracking did 143.2 mph. Not sure what lap it was but it was around 6300 rpm in 4th gear and that was all she had. That is not speeds I would want to do on the street with street tires. That was at a track in a harness with race rubbers helping get out of the down hill on to the straight fast and helping keep it in check under very heavy braking heading into big bend.

Nope Luck Has Nothing do to with it. Just find a straight away, and In case you didn't know the Magazines take payoffs under the table so it ain't legit, plus a couple of my friends have hit 155 in their Z28 just like mine. They have plenty more to go. Even the 305 TPIs with the G92 and 5speed have hit 155.

I know that the tpi 305 is pretty weak over 100mph from my own experience. I guess Id just have to see it happen.

Well the ones I've seen make it are not completely 100% stock, they do have basic bolt ons like exhaust, and a good tune up. But there are a few on YouTube.

Re: Fastest you've gone
This is painfull watching it but he did get up to some speed eventually. Needs some mods!! Seems really slow to me but im spoiled with the turbo I guess. The main reason I say that is slow, is me basing the acceleration from 70mph-110mph, compared to mine. And I have half the CI

Heres a 305 and that is really painful to watch, that needle is moving slow.

Anyone have links to a better speed video??

Thats one of the ones I telling you about, true he has the 305 but he hit some traffic but hes slowly making his way there, now with the 350 you can get there all the way.

Want Proof? The TTA was clocked at 162mph in the June 1989 edition of Motortrend. If 162mph is what a TTA could muster, an L98 thirdgen or a LB9 thirdgen stands no chance of 165mph in stock trim. The SLP Firehawk will beat that number, but its less "factory" than the TTA.
That there is 100% proof positive. Did the paper come wrapped around a tube of KY by chance? That had to hurt the wallet.

149 was my top...dont think there was much more if any to get out of it. that was using a gps . felt very stable only slowed down because the road was a little rough.

1985 Z28, 5.0 TPI auto trans.
Unknown speed but probably between 120mph and 140mph.
I had the needle slamming the bar and I appeared to be passing cars like they were stopped! This was in a 75mph speed limit zone on the highway.
My speedometer stops at 85. In 1986, the speedometer stopped at 140, yet there was very little if any changes as far as performance. So thats what leads me to believe I was doing about 140 max, 120 minimum.
Mods at the time: Home-made cold air/ram air and K&N air filters, shorty headers and a true dual exhaust, and a fiberglass hood.
*The pic was taken on a different occasion. I was prob doing about 95-100mph at night.
Now, fastest Ive ever been? Not in my third gen? I hit 152mph on my Yamaha R6. Very fun, scary and extremely stupid! Only did it once.

Re: Fastest you've gone
that all depends on how its setup, nascars usually do not track straight, fun fact, also whether or not its one of the fi ones from this year, or the carb'd one from last year how much tape is on the grill, the suspension load, the gear ratios which you've already mentioned, i'd say if it was a supers[eedway car, say talladega pr daytona, and you corrected the camber and toe in the front end so that the car could run straight and there was no restrictor plate or anything to slow it down, one by itself could probably do about 225 miles an hour depending on the lenght of the road and overall smoothness, nothing is completely smooth and at speed the slightest bumps can cause serious problems

I'm going to have to call BS on 175 miles in 1hr 15min. Fuel stop takes 5-10 min. You cannot sustain 160+ MPH average speed on public roadways, unless you are the only person on the road the whole time.

Agreed. But there's alot of BS in this thread. I'd kinda like to see some kind of proof. I've gone faster on the street than most(200+), but without proof its just another unbelievable story.

You could, I agree. But I don't know many street legal cars that could sustain that engine load for over an hour. I've had mine up to 165, but only for a second.

1992 Camaro RS, 5.0 with a 700R4. All stock. Hit 110mph on the highway while racing a Mustang. We were racing on a long open road with no other cars around. Might have been able to get more out of her, but the Mustang admitted defeat so i shut her down.
And before you ask what kind of mustang it was, im not sure. just saw it coming up fast in my rear-view so I punched it and left it in the dust. 5.0 surprised me that day.

Might've been a bone stock 5.0 auto. Take into account that's a slightly newer 4.6 with some bolt ons, tune, 3.73s, 6 speed, etc. A win's a win either way though.

I'm not much of a Mustang fan, but I can respect your car. sounds like a pretty fun ride actually. Hell 130+ in anything is fun
Re: Fastest you've gone
It's laid down the speedometer to 150 MPH four times now, not too bad. Hell, I'm not much of a Camaro fan anymore.
Just can't find any inspiration for how to build mine, looks-wise. Been leaning towards black for a while, since sickness91z28's car is awesome. But, don't know.

It'll sit like this, ready for new paint until I can make up my mind.

Re: Fastest you've gone
I like the Rims on your mustang. also it looks pretty cool with no spoiler on the back. Black looks cool, especially on sickness91z28's car, but seems too common. Try something less common. It might give you inspiration if you make it different from a lot of the other ones on here. but if you do black, make sure it is a deep, dark black. not the lighter black i see on some cars.
Re: Fastest you've gone
I like Sinister Z's Ferrari yellow Iroc, and Camaroguy18's HOK red car, but they seem too bright and show-oriented to me. From seeing the silver Mustang, black wheels, spoilerless, you can probably tell I like them a little more low key and overall a clean look. I'm just picky.
White looks good, though. Also been looking into a dark blue off of the new Mustangs, kona blue.

That shade of blue on an Iroc + some comp grey, satin pewter, or clear anodized CCW classics = insane.

My friend just bought a 2010 Mustang in that same blue color. V6 with a 5 speed. I like your idea of that color on an Iroc with the CCW classics. that would look awesome.
