Re: Fastest you've gone

155mph in a 1982 camaro witha built 1971 LT1 and a m-21 4 speed, 3.23 gears. I had my old 1988 Formula w/350 (ZZ3), 5-speed and 2.73 rear up to 150. This was all in the early to mid 90's. I can't do that kinda of speeding anymore because of my chosen career.

Re: Fastest you've gone

"105+ Thats what the ticket was for in my 85. The cop asked me how fast I was going and I told him directly, I don't look down at this type of speed. He told me his radar was at its max and couldn't write me for anything more. That was a $250 fun ride."

My radar unit reads up to 199mph and we all know you can't go that fast. The cop can't testify in court if he didn't have a clear readout.

Re: Fastest you've gone

Recently the MFBA car club rented out Road America. I road with one of our instructors in his C6 Z06 (bone stock cept for race pads) and we topped out at 157mph before the braking point on the front straight. This was with a 25mph head wind!

Re: Fastest you've gone

I was following a buddy who was driving his 87 Mustang (5.0, 5 speed, not stock). I didn't know the area and he was probably doing 135 on the back roads. I had to keep up just to find my way so I was up to 125mph in my 91' Bird, LO3, 2.73 gears. Had to get down to 65-75 in some of the subtle turns. Thats with brand new tires, but my suspension is stock, and 20 years old. It had a lot of body roll and I was not going any quicker around the bends. At one point I was down to 45 around a sharp bend and he reluctantly stopped and waited for me to accelerate again. Only time I've actually broken the limit by more than 10 mph.

Re: Fastest you've gone

In my first TA: ~130mph (1988 5.0 tbi )
My 2nd TA: ~160mph (1988 5.7 tpi HSR, headers etc )
My 3rd TA ~145mph (1992 5.7 tpi)

Don't really know what my new Stroker is capable of, but I think it will reach ~200mph if I had a T56 transmission. With my 700r4 I think I'm aiming at ~180mph

Re: Fastest you've gone

Somewhere around 110 in my 3.1 on a rural section of a local state highway. I didn't push it any further because it was late at night and I was catching air. That was about 12 or 13 years ago and I don't plan on doing that again. I was lucky not to get pulled over.

Re: Fastest you've gone

100mph a few years ago in my dad's Impala, just to say I'd done it. It was stupid and I wouldn't do it again; I don't enjoy high speeds because it scares me, both because of cops and more importantly because of reaction time. I enjoy getting to speed quickly a lot more.

Re: Fastest you've gone

When I first got my third gen, I took her to 115, but it was shaking so bad I was scared to try anymore. The fastest I've gone period is 140 or so in my dad's Corvette. I was too focused on driving to look at the speedo.

After this rebuild, though, my mouth is watering just thinking about how fast I may be able to get her. There's a lot of open road near where I live. Open highway with curves and straight-aways.

Re: Fastest you've gone

Did 139 on the highway once, midway through 5th with a T5 and a 350. Different time/location, cop got me at 116 on the highway - good thing I was already slowing down though. He slapped me with wreckless driving and a 116/65 speeding ticket. Got that down to 84 in a 65 and a seatbelt violation without a lawyer.

In my 89 305 tpi I've hot 120 without trying I could probably get 150 out of it easy. And in my 94' 3.3 v6 I've done 120 peddle to the floor but it handled like it was at 60

In the camaro 142 mph (measured using GPS and averaged over a 20 mile distance) without airdam and without electric fan (none of which I knew about at the time I purchased it. Had a 160 mile trip home after buying the car and I wanted to be in time for dinner).

Oh, springs and shocks were also out of order.

Went 155 mph in a Mercedes 190E 2.5 (not a thirdgen) a few years before. Hit the speed limiter

Just have to bring this up again. I know it's old but requires to be corrected:

Not sure when the poster was here but I hit a few bumps on the A61, that made me wonder whether my rear axle would be travelling on the back seat of my car from there on. It's the same stretch of road where I did 142 mph in the Camaro though, so I would not say it'd not be possible.

89 Formula i had years ago just a stage 1 cam upgrade, ecm chipped t5 tranny, with catback exhaust no converter ran 135 MPH pushing my luck but still had some power left.

91 TA L98 MSD, built auto trans, no converters, stock exhaust with ac on pushing 138mph with no ac car ran 155 MPH pushing everything down on the table. Pretty good if you ask me

Re: Fastest you've gone

Fastest I've gone was in my camaro, when it was my DD.
About midnight just playing around with the throttle hit 160, gps confirmed and ended up passing a cop going the opposite way. Thankfully he tapped his brakes and then kept going. Must say very impressed with the Iroc, was not at full throttle and if I remember right somewhere around 5k rpm. At 120 she just sat right down to the road and the ride was smooth the rest of the way up, I still think back and wonder how fast I could have got her to.

Other mentions would have to be:
*91 S-10 2.8L, 104 (took forever to get up to that speed) gps verified.
*01 (?) Mazda Speed 6, 120. Must say I was impressed with this car and honestly didn't mean to go anywhere near this speed. Much as I made fun of my friend for having a 4cyl I told him after he had a nice car (granted a week later the car was totaled).
*03 (?) Audi A6 Bi-Turbo, 115.
*94 1500, 110.
*01 (?) Dodge caravan sport, 102.
and lastly;
*96 Toyota Camry 4cyl, 103. Terrible idea steering wheel was shaking so bad I thought the wheels were gonna fall off.

Yes, I have a bit of a speed fetish but I try to get my fix in areas where others won't be hurt.

I gave him the look and revved my car while he shook his head NOOOO. Light changed I hit the gas full throttle and ripped out and left him behind. He was not the only cop I raced, was small town an I knew all the cops. I also was a very good law abiding citizen. I did have a state cop pull me over in that Iroc also, went to court and I won, very crazy story.
Ok last time i really got on it was about 2 months ago in a vet on the freeway, doing about 120 with the peddle 1/4 down..lol
I really would have put the peddle to the metal but was not my Vet and he was behind me in a Honda.

When was this and what kinda of cop car.
I know the crown vics for the past, want to say decade, will max out at 115 or 125 depending on gearing.

Re: Fastest you've gone

Although I typically don't go fast on the street, I have had a few highway races with random cars that have been up there:

About 140mph racing a Dinan M3 on the GSP - could barely see him in the mirror. found out later it was driven by a magazine editor doing a road test of the car!

Over 140mph racing some idiot in a supercharged mustang on the GSP - lucky he got through the turns in that non handler.

130+ racing some fool in a 928GT on Rt17 though a lot of turns no less, I slowed down after I realized he was not any sort of driver and would crash.

I've had it up to about 150mph on the nitrous, which comes up in about 1/2 mile and scares the poop out of passengers.

Re: Fastest you've gone

my speedometer dont work at all but i had a gps with me and it skipped from 80 to 120. 120 all i went with my 87 firebird 350 not stock. i am not sure what is not stock on it but the previous owner said that its not. plus it use to be a 305. i would have went faster but passed a cop that was hiding behind another vehicle on other side of road. good thing he didn't have his radar going lol. and my tires are really dry rotted, and bald. but still had about 3/8 of the throttle to go down so i guess thats ok...

About 116 mph in my vert top up... maybe about 100 top down. Car starts to feel a little unsettled at those speeds. Brand new front end/tires too... I wonder why.

Re: Fastest you've gone

Playing around a while ago, in 2009 or so. I'm pretty sure the standing mile would be about 140mph or so.

If I can FINALLY get the car at Road America I'll be sure to have the GPS app set to track recorder. I'm sure it'll get close to 150mph on the RA front straight if I can trust the brakes to haul the car down again.

Re: Fastest you've gone

Put the speedo past 140 for about 5 seconds. Never had the stones to take the car up to its 160+ stock potential. Stock TTA is documented at 162 mph, yet Scott Kelly, chief engineer for PAS stated the car did 171 during lap testing at Indy. With close to 500 hp at the crank now, I should hit close to 190. $hit, I'll be happy when I get to 120 in the 1/4

Re: Fastest you've gone

my first car was an 86 z28 with a swapped goodwrench 350 and a 700r4...had the 145 speedo so of course wanted to see how accurate it was...i got it to 140 before i gave up...felt like the whole front clip was floating with that stock suspension.

Re: Fastest you've gone

I don't own a thrid gen but a long, long time ago, in my '85 Buick Skyhawk (with a V6 and 5 speed swap) I hit around 212 kph (approximatly 132 MPH). I say around that, because I had to do calculations based on gearing tire size and RPM. My speedo stopped LONG before. lol The ironic part was that I was not in any sort of rush at the time. I just had a couple idiots that wouldn't leave me alone.

Re: Fastest you've gone

My speedo only goes to 80mph but with the same engine in my 93 chevy silverado the aftermarket gauge buried itself in fourth gear at 140.I refused to ever shift to fifth in fear of my life.It was a richmond 4+1 trans.

Re: Fastest you've gone

My favorite thing to do is merge onto the interstate from the on-ramp while everyone is doing 85-90 and accelerate like they are sitting still, merge in and back down to speed. That turns some heads.

lets see that on youtube... your prom will shut you down in the 130 - 140 range... and you don't have enough >>power<<!!!! in a bone stock motor it would take all day to get to that speed even if you had the prom limit removed

90 Iroc L98 - Racing a foxbody mustang I had the speedo buried (it reads 145).
I was ahead by about 2 fenders.
