Re: Fastest you've gone

That sir is bad @ss. You have a fast car. I could only hope mine does close to 142 in the 1/4. (I'd be happy with 125 haha).
650whp will do it on a decently light car but I got a feeling my car isnt light anymore and thats not all that much hp for a boosted car. It sits alot lower than it used to with the turbo stuff. If you run that 5.3 with a T76, you have the motor for the power to run 140's. Good luck to you.

I don't think my car will be anywhere near 650 whp but I guess I could be surprised. The norm for a stock bottom end 5.3 and a T70 is around 520 whp at 15 psi. I'm thinking my 76mm at the same psi should be around 550-560. I'm not sure how much of a harder hit I'll get by using a 76mm instead of the normal 70mm though. My car on the other hand I know will be decently light though since I have tubular everything underneath it. With no ac, the k member and a arms, and the fact that I have a much lighter motor now, I am guessing I'll be around the 3300 lbs mark with a full interior. I was guessing I'd be in the high 10 mark at around 128-130. Guess we'll see though. Only a matter of time before it's on the road!

Re: Fastest you've gone

My buddy made 702whp on a 4.8 with nothing more than rod bolts with a T88. 23psi I think and with a decent sized cam to turn 7500 rpms They can hold power if you tune it right.

550whp will still run very good and at that weight, low 130's easily. My other friend traps 130 with a 3300ish lb bird with around 480-490 whp.

Re: Fastest you've gone

I had a 91 transam gta totally std apart from induction kit, needle ran out! was still pulling just at 152! Not bad eh?
Mind you these old f bodys keep some holding onto at that speed!
Front end was all over the place, mind you i wouldnt try this i blew the auto box and had to have a rebuild.
Now i have a 173ci camaro with manual trans i recon you could get 120 on a flat, my freind had a 3.1 firebird with an auto box man that was a slow car, a total snail! i recon you would struggle to hit 120 in that thing, i hate the v6 autos they are no fun at all, well not std anyhow.

I was going 0 in my stubby firebird, felt about like 120-125, I don't really know, the speedo only goes up to 85, so I figure back to zero is somewhere in there.

Re: Fastest you've gone

I was in a 420ishWHP (the LS6 405 hp model) ZO6 that pulled over 140 MPH on a local road that was wet in fourth gear (I think, might have been third still). Needless to say the car died weeks later when the owner managed to roll it 3-4 times late one night and ended up in the hospital for a few weeks.

Re: Fastest you've gone

115 according to my gps in my bone stock LG4. Haven't topped out the new engine.

The FASTEST I've gone is actually a funny story...My x's step dad was vp of a local chevy dealer and he let me drive an 08 corvette off the showroom floor. He let me get on the local bypass and I had the electronic speedo that regenerates every second or so up to 140+ and I was still holding the pedal down. Front of that car lifted up when I got on it at 30 getting on the on ramp. Crazy fun drive. Needless to say he almost **** his pants on the drive and he also mentioned how suprised he was that I "wasn't afraid of the car" as I was only 18 yrs old

I agree. Why lie? Makes you that much less of a person.

Pushed 120mph on 50 in my 87 Formula 305/350 (was unknown what the engine was) Edelbrock performer intake, 750cfm carb. Straight STOCK manifolds (meaning the exhaust fell off right after both manifolds came down and joined together. Was loud and annoying.) Nothing fancy.

Re: Fastest you've gone

If someone wants to do the math:

5000 RPM, 5th gear in a T5 with a 2.73 rear gear on a 26" tall tire.

Dont know how fast that was but it made the phone poles look like a picket fence., LOL.

I got 141 with a 1:1 4th gear in the T5, but i dont know about 5th gear.

Re: Fastest you've gone

The digital speedo in my Berlinetta starts to flash at 85mph and will not read over 85mph. So I guess I've only gone 85mph. All that money on a big motor and I have no idea how fast the car because the dumb *** engineers at gm thought it would be a good idea to limit a digital speedo to 85mph. However, it will read triple digits in KPH. The digital tach also starts flashing at 4500 rpm (LG4). The only time flashing is good is when its a hot chick.

85-90mph~

Cars front end would vibrate horribly when getting to those speeds. At the time I had a Firebird 16' with a shitty tire and worn shocks on the passenger front with the C5 wheels.

I wouldn't mind stretching her legs with everyone I have done since then on the Highway, Should be a night and day difference.

Re: Fastest you've gone

My speedo goes to 85 before it gets into the metric system on the right side. I'm guessing I hit 110-115 before the teeth on the distributor gear stripped right away down to little jagged edges.

With a new distributor and new injectors I've been up in that range again with no problems and with plenty more left to go, but it didn't pay to go faster if I couldn't tell how fast I was going anyway.

I'll have to remember to bring my GPS along next time I run up above 100.

My '84 Firebird's speedo stopped @ 85 but it went well over that.

I had a Kia Optima that topped out @ 124mph. @ 120 it sounded like a little airplane about to fall apart..

Re: Fastest you've gone

I was on my way to work the other day, passing veyron's and mosler's - you know, usual deal for us thirdgenners

Then I pull up at some lights and this F16 lands by me. Guy opens his cockpit, blaring E40 from his deck and starts trash talking on my '82 Iron Duke. Then he starts hitting on my girl. So she's giving him head and I'm like why don't I drop this fool. I pulled the choke out and hammered that four speed, hitting the sweet spot on every gear change. My idiot lights were flashing like crazy and everything gut blurry, but, yo, I think I passed 800

MW claims around 140 for a L98 IROC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4XjQGAnksE - I would think that on a pretty flat race track

I've taken my GTA upto around an indicated 120

MW claims around 140 for a L98 IROC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4XjQGAnksE - I would think that on a pretty flat race track

I've taken my GTA upto around an indicated 120

thats great
have only done like 115-125 in the gta.
fastest ever was in a 2001 bmw 7-series and 150 felt like 80 in that car. scary luxury lol.

Re: Fastest you've gone

Taken my GTA higher than 150mph. I do have a GPS screenshot at 135mph, but its seen 150+ before.

Just had the daily driver up to about 120mph on the Road America front straight, which is about 4,000ft.

Absolutely... he got drunk and managed to roll it A LOT. Lucky for him that he is still alive. Respectable driver when sober, I'd trust my life with him behind the wheel.

Oh and the next fastest thing was a grand national... it read 85 MPH but it felt more like it was hitting the governor at 124 MPH

Re: Fastest you've gone

Well I'm not completely sure. I've got the 82-84 85mph speedo. Wrapped it around to 35, so i'd say 115ish. Not bad for a 2.8. BTW this was a sunday morning on fairly secluded highway with about 6 miles of straight road and no one in sight. Driving that fast with other people around is pure stupidity.

Sort of off topic, is it true that the white lines on the highway become solid at 120mph?

Re: Fastest you've gone

1988 IROC Camaro.

I have only had the room & space to get my baby up to 133mph. It's real hard to do where I live because I live in the suburbs & cops are always around looking for someone to pull over. I have to drive out of my way to go fast & I always take my speeds out on the highway away from traffic, away from people & I only see cars here and there. Once I get the chance I'll take the car past 145mph.

20 odd years ago you could run 150 all day long anywhere , anytime you wanted. Today , you have to have some serious stuff under the hood to find room to get to 120. Oh,and you better have BIG brakes........As far as the dotted line going soild; on the interstate, 150+.

I cranked out the math on this one:

Assuming 26" diameter tires, the 3.73:1 rear ratio mentioned in the sig, and the smallest overdrive in a stock T-5 (0.63:1), thats 180 mph at an engine rpm of: 5465.8

You guys decide if his car can pull that speed in 5th gear.

Re: Fastest you've gone

OK, I know its not a 3rd gen, but I had a 72 Dodge Challenger with a 440 6pack, auto tranny running 3.54 gears and 315/50 15s...136 in the 1/4 against a Formula. He only got 116 or 118, but he won. My car had no traction bars so I spun horribly off the line, and that Formula launched HARD! Most fun Ive ever had in a car. (Formula had me by a car and a half at least) I ran just over 12 seconds, he was 11.90 range
