Pontiac Grand Am GT

Hey everybody,

My question is can I beat a Stock 00/01 Grand Am GT in a street race? I'd say the street I like to use is a little over 1/8 of a mile, so what do you people think? I drive an '86 Trans Am WS6 5.0 TPI All Stock except open element.

From what I read I would run 7.6 0-60 and 15.6 1/4 (190 HP and 295 TQ). Approx what would the Grand Am run? (2001 has 175 HP and 205 TQ)

Also would I beat a Non-VTEC 95 Prelude or 01 Lexus ls300 on the same racing track. Thnaks in advance for your response

I've seen '01 Grand Am GT's run 15.9, so yes, you'll beat him. I'm not a big Lexus guy, but I know just about all the 300 series cars suck. The GS300 is a nice car, but I can beat it. I'm not sure about the IS300, i'm guessing its not that much dfiferent. Now the 400 series is a whole nother story...14.2 for the GS400's, not too shabby. But yeah, you can definently take the Grand Am and the Prelude

With my setup how badly will I get beat by a 2000 Stang 6-speed (or 5-speed, what do they use?)

Also my tranny has been having probs switching from 1st to 2nd with throttle fully open.

The 2000 stangs have 5 speeds,i think you can hang but i wouldn't count on gettting him if your running stock. As for the other cars, the grand am will get beat but dont sleep on it,i seen a grand am beat a lg4 camaro in a drag pretty badly because those SOBs hook up,the honda is toast,as for the Lexus, the is300 is fast,it runs i believe 14.9 and my car is an 86 305tpi and the peformance seems similar when the kid took me for a ride in it,plus it has shifters on the steering wheel which is cool, the is300 will most likely get you as they are new, fresh, and full of life.

A Lexus IS300 will not run 14.9. It will run at best high 15's. Its an auto.

I had a friend of mine drive my Lexus GS400 VS. my 305TPI Formula(mods below) and at about 90mph I was almost a car-length ahead. If your 3rdGen can't beat a low-end Lexus, like the IS300, than the 3rdGen car in question is absolete.

1990 Formula
Factory:TPI-305/Dual Cat(230hp),5 Speed,3.42 rear, Dealer:Aluminum Drive Shaft
Mods:SLP air foil,K&N Filter, Accel:wires,coil cap,rotor.Hypertech Thermomaster chip,Stat,Fan switch,TES headers,MSD6AL,AFPR(46), Harwood fiberglass hood,original GM "Notchback GTA" hatch.
Flowmaster 3" Cat-back exhaust,TB coolant bypass, Centerforce dual friction clutch.
1999 Lexus GS 400 everyday car(It's a V8 so its not Rice)
1987 Voyager Minivan. Cost me $300=runs like new.No repairs for over 2 years(fingers crossed)

Well the kid with the IS300 is the biggest bull-****ter you ever met. Get this, he tells me the base model (v-6) makes 200HP but his "specially ordered from Japan" model is an I-4 and it makes 350HP. Sure it does...
I just smile and nod and can't wait for teh day when his "special" IS300 comes in so I can beat the **** out of him.

He also is ordering another "super-special" engine from the factory that makes 500HP and then he'l race Vipers. Since its for a Lexus he says he's paying 25K for the engine swap.

Sorry for babbling for so long, but don't you just love these people who don't know ANYTHING, spend 50K on a shi*ty Lexus and then get embarrassed by a 15 year-old third-gen

Sorry, I jsut had to vent, today he just gave me another dose of his BS and I jsut ahd to share it.

Damn sorry for the bad spelling in the above post.

I forgot to mention that I raced another (different) late 90's Stang 5-Speed from a light yesterday. I was hanging wis him until 3rd, but then my tranny refused to switch and he handed me my a$$ on a platter by the next light

If he's telling you he paid 50K for a cheapo IS300 Lexus or 25K for some imaginary engine swap, let him know that one can't possibly get High enough on exhaust gases to imagine an abstact thing like horse power.
For that kind of money he can get a newer Lexus GS430 or something.
