87 IROC vs. 78 Trans Am

I've got an 87 IROC-Z with a new 305 TPI (0 miles on engine 115000 on trans) put in with World Torquer 305 SR heads it's been dynoed at 265 horse and 323 torq.....the 78 Trans Am is a 400 carbed with 128000 miles on it with no mods.....hypothetically who would win from a stopped position.....

I am not expert on second gen TA's but those engines were suffocated by smog equipment. I don't think those 400 cubes produced even 200HP, so you should have no problem with it.

I do believe that those 400 Pontiac motors in 78' made 200 horsepower stock. However, if on his hood scoop says "TA 6.6" it has 220 hp due to higher compression. Either way, your gonna beat him pretty good.

The 403 Oldsmobile (6.6L) V8 made 200 horsepower. Yes, those motors were extremely smogged down. I built my 403 to 320 horsepower with a cam/heads/intake (among other mods too), and I love that motor, plenty of torque....then we have the 400 Pontiac.....

The 400 c.i. made 220 horsepower, thus the "T/A 6.6" hoodscoop decal.

I think you will spank that T/A like a 2 dollar hooker...

I don't know if I caused any confusion like I usually do...but I was siding with the TPI over the 78 T/A. With a modified TPI...HECK YEAH, you will beat that 400. I never meant the 78 T/A would beat you. I would not be so dumb. I've had my 403 in a 86 Firebird, with a TH400, and it twisted the driveshaft...then we cut the car in half and took it to the yard, so I don't know if it can outperform a modified TPI. Most likely not. But it was engine-dynoed around 320 horsepower when I was done with it. Now it sits on my porch awaiting a new chariot to power. Oh well.
