3.23 vd 3.73
3.23 vd 3.73
my car has 3.23 in it right now
I was told if I went to 3.73 I would notice a difference in take off
right now I am just barely eating stangs for lunch
but the 5.7 should walk all over a 5.0l stang
if I were to swap out for the lower gears would I really notice better street racing performance???

yes, i think you would benefit a lot more with 3.73s than 3.23s. I wouldnt do it because I would gain a tenth at most and its just not worth it for me. man your barely beating stangs? heh, i rarely ever lose to one, and when i do race them they are 3 car lengths behind me, and you have a 350. i have to check the #s on my block to see if i have a 350 or 305...i think i got an aftermarket 350 in my stuff.

V8power...i have a question for you...do you have any intake mods? If not there is NO need for 24# injectors...3.73's would be nice with the T5...hell even 3.42's would be a nice upgrade..

I dont have any thing as of yet done to the intake
but I will be Right now I have the injector constants set abit high to help lean out the engine and I have dropped the fuel presure abit
all in good time
so you think the 3.23 are useless and I should change them ? I have a buddy with a set of 3.73 and a locker I am really considdering it

i am not positive but what is the gearing limit to where our speedometers can no longer be calibrated? its either 3.73 or 4.11. i read it in a tech article on this board. also, your gas mileage will decrease significantly with 3.73's.

Your mpg wouldn't necessarily decrease, it all depends on the power band of your motor, and I just got 3:73's from 2:73's and haven't noticed a loss in mpg.

I would first try and get you car running better. my stock 305 tpi auto 3.23 could beat stangs by more than a car. I think some thing is not right perhaps and most likely the case the stangs you are racing are not stock and claim they are like many do. I see more modded stangs than 3rd gens usually the thirdgens I see on the street at best have a chip and flowmaster while the stangs have H-pipe, flowmaster, cam and or gears 3.73-4.11 the ones that are usually crusing spray too. and of course the modded stangs eat the 3rd gens.

My car went slower with '73s. So I went back to my 23s. TPI don't need help off the line.

3.73s will greatly increase your times IF you can get traction. The L98 is a torque monster, and without some big slicks or DRs, you are going to get some problems. Also your crusing RPM at 80mph will be above 3k RPM.

I know I might catch some hell for this, but I think 3.73's are an all around good gear for anything V8 RWD. I had them in my old LX, and now in my IROC.
There is another theory behind it too - typically, you want to be about 300-500 RPM past peak HP going through the traps for your best ET. But, 99% of us here drive our cars more than we race them. Pick a gear that suits your driving habits. My LX only lost 1 MPG going from 3.08's to 3.73's.

had 4.11 on my 71 camaro real nice for driving street though I was getting bad mpg. somethingl ike 8-11 mpg. this was with a destroked 400 SBC, and a TH 350. never again. I would say the 3.73 would be nice though.
right now my other car is running 4.1 and I am thinking of dropping in some 4.88 opr 5.12 now that would be nice for me :-D
