Don't underestimate the 4.0 jeeps! I'd use your V8 car just to make sure since you've got $$ on it, I'll bet those things would be trouble for TBI cars like mine.

The 4.0 jeeps arent all that fast. Is the jeep 5 speed or auto? Does it have larger tires than stock? Does your 2.8 have a 5 speed or auto? I've never been in a 2.8 firebird, but the 3.1 I rode in was pretty d@mn slow. It ran 17's. If yours is that slow, Id use the V8. The jeep has more power and torque than you, and probably less weight.

Jeep would probably win. I'd say use the 2.8 just to see how close it is, but you have money riding on the race.

I've had both a 2.8 MPFI Firebird, and a 4.0 powered Jeep Cherokee. The Jeep will most likly get ya! The 4.0 is a torque monster engine, where the 2.8 lacks in that area.

hey if u want to lose 50 then go ahead with the 2.8 becuz my friend raced a jeep with the 4.0l and he got beat badly. and he has a 89 305 tbi. but yet he comes out and says oh i beat that iguy by like 3 car lenths. and i asked his cuzin which was in the car at the time said he got beat badly. so like if u want to race one with the 2.8 go ahead but if u use the 350 tell us how it comes out. later

Well I got lucky with the 2.8, he missed second so thanks to his poor shiftin I got the 50. I ran him a 2nd time cause I be a nice guy and he left me in a cloud of clutch smoke. My 350 will have to wait until next year as she be parked for the winter, but come april it be on. His Jeep was pretty much stock. 4.0L HO
