If you have the lg4 he will beat you. I think the 400 put out a little over 200 horses with TONS of torque though. You never know though...

it will eather be a 400 or possibly a 455 (was an option that year and the final year of the 455 in the bird) he will kill you eather way but it is a smogged out car so the beating wont be too horrible

I think you got him. I had a '76 TA w/a 400. At first I thought it was a 455, but they were rare and mine didn't have it. It had some crappy gears, I believe worse than 2:73. Also those cars are tanks, nothing could hurt it. I'd put my money on you.
Edit[]What gears do you have? I would say anything numerically higher than 2:73 he doesn't stand a chance. Is his motor stock, though, or is it rebuilt? I believe those cars ran high 16's stock.

My friend has a 77 T/A with the olds 403. With minor mods and a 3.08 rear, I still beat him. The pontiac block makes more power, but if he has a crappy rear end hes not going anywhere fast. 2nd gens from the smog era arent the fastest cars in the world, but dont underestimate them.

My neighbor used to have a '78 T/A w/ the 403 Olds..whopping 170hp or something pathetic like that...ran a 16.8 in the 1/4. The '76's w/ the 400 were closer to 190-210hp mark but still a solid disco era emissions effected 16-sec slug. Go for it & if you do lose, it won't be by much & he has almost 100 cubes on you!

I dont know what mods my friend has done to his 77 403 T/A, but he is definetly much faster than 16.8. A year ago when I was at the track I ran a 15.0, and he was only a length or two behind me. This would probably put him ahead of a LG4 car, or even with a L69 car, and dont forget that he has the weakest of all the engines. If it was a Pontiac motor, He would be even faster.
