Re: 06 gtos are fast
They aren't that fast in stock form, they barely break the 13's infact.
Racing to 140MPH is pointless anyway (unless your car actually does that in the 1/4 which I highly doubt), you would have been way past the 1/4 mile at that point.
In my opinion, top speed means absolutely nothing to me. My Formula will easily do 140+ but it's how fast I get there is all that matters. Plus going that fast on anything but a track is absolutely stupid.

It was on an open highway no cars exept us. I do get up there very fast but top out with 4.56 gears around 8000 rpms pushing it a little. And ya 140 is just asking for trouble

Re: 06 gtos are fast
Those 4.56 gears are killing you. Why not get 4.10s and have some more streetability?
And yes, LS2 GTOs can hit 12's.

Re: 06 gtos are fast
I have never personally seen an LS2 GTO break 12's in stock form EVER. I find it hard to believe those heavy cars could break 12's stock especially on street tires, maybe with an EXCELENT driver. I raced 3 GTOs at the track last year. One was an 04 LS1 car that ran a 14.2 with just a CAI. The other 2 06's couldn't hardly get into the 13's. One was an auto that ran a 15.0 (noob driver) and finally cracked off a 13.9 later that day. The other ran consistent 13.8s or so.
The are heavier than F-bodys and will run 13's all day long with a decent driver. With DR's or slicks 12's could be possible I suppose but I was talking about bone stock street tire GTO's, not your google searched OMG SOMEONE BROKE 12's IN A STOCK GTO b.s.

You have to factor in elevation or account for that. You can't assume that all GTO's are like that because of crappy air and a crappy track...just saying.

Re: 06 gtos are fast
Its all in the launch for the GTO. Back when mine had a couple hundred miles on it, the very first pass was a wheel hopping 13.6 mess. Took me 4 trips to the track to figure out how to launch the damn thing, but I got it down to a 13.25@105. This was at Capitol in MD. The fastest '04 GTO's were 13.1x but only a handful and all were M6 cars. 04 A4 GTO's were dogs because of torque management.
LS2 cars were the same way but a few dipped into the 12's.
GTO's do have a weight disadvantage but gearing(M6 only) makes up for it. They are geared like a 3.90 F-Body, except 4th of course. That pretty much negates that.
Just really have to know how to launch and drive to get good times with them. They respond very well to mods just like any other LSx cars. FWIW, they were limited to 155mph stock.
