Stupid honda
This guy i work with drives an 07 honda civic si and he tells the most ridiculous lies. The car is stock and he claims hes hit 166mph. Ive done tons of research on the car and no matter what i say he just wont admit his stories are bs. Short of actually dragging this idiot to the track ( i doubt he would do it anyways ) im looking for way to disprove his stories. ive asked him to use a dash cam or anything like that and hes always got an excuse. I realize it shouldnt bother me but his stories are just soo ridiculous. So as soon as i get my camaro put together ( hopefully this week ) im going to try and get this guy on the track. its the best way i can think to shut him up without losing my job

Re: Stupid honda
Dude when people talk about how fast they've gone in their car it's lame anyway. I don't care if he did or didn't do 166MPH in his car, even if his car was capable of doing that it would probably take a solid minute of acceleration.

Re: Stupid honda
I'm too lazy to do this right now but do some research and find out for the 07 SI:
1) sixth gear ratio, and final drive transaxle ratio
2) red line for the K20 engine, I think its 7300 rpm
3) Stock tire size
Armed with this data you can find out if the engine red lines in 6th before hitting 166, If it doe then you've flat out proved he is lying.
If it comes close then he is still lying because this does take into account aerodynamic drag and friction.

its not a stock engine, he has a aem short ram intake with a k&n cone filter, ngk plugs and 8mm wires, a flowmaster glasspack and a wing I'm suprised he could only hit 166 with that monster

Googled it. Stock governor is set at 137. Car has the gearing to hit 180 but that doesn't include aerodynamics. As stated an ls1 has trouble doing that, I certainly doubt a civic can.

Re: Stupid honda
Its going to take more than 200hp to push a stock weight Civic to 166mph. A stock LS1 can BARELY hit those speeds if the limiter is disabled and thats a good 120hp more than the Civic. The Civic would have to shave a good bit of weight to hit those speeds with a stock engine.

Re: Stupid honda
according to this http://autos.yahoo.com/honda/civic-s...fications.html, a 2007 Civic Si Couple with a 6 speed manual falls just shy of 2900lbs.
So yea, no way is a stock Si even breaking 145, let alone hitting 166.
A C5 Vette can get up to about 175. Thats 345hp @ 3219-3229lbs ( depending on trans ). I'm ballparking it here but a stock weight Si would need around 250whp to hit 160.

I have the data but dont know how to use it. Sixth gear Ratio is .66 and final drive is 4.765. Redline is 7800 and tires size is 215/45-17. Could you explain how this works?

Re: Stupid honda
I even had 1 moron tell me my L98 was governed at 120 because " His buddys Fox Body raced a 3rd gen and slowly passed him at 125 " . Tried telling him for quite a while that L98s weren't governed and that it was more than likely a 305 which WERE governed at 120 IIRC.

Ran into a guy that worked at gas station a mo ago talking up his prelude about how quick it got to 140 kind of laughed and said "Ok".. he kept on and on finally told him Id like to see. His reply was my "old truck" couldnt do 140 to keep up it was too old. Had it well ove rthat and gets there quick
He declined the invite of course
If only he knew....lol Some people have no idea.

You need at least 300-350hp to get to 150mph. about 500hp if you want to go to 200mph.

Re: Stupid honda
A stock A4 2.0 turbo putting out about 180hp can and has hit 150mph. Not much over that but it can be done. Now to go faster the curve of top speed vs HP is exponential but your figure of 300-350 is way off.

Re: Stupid honda
I would think that number should be closer to 250 crank. A LS1 4th gen can get pretty close to 170 ( with the 162mph limiter disabled ) and they have 340-350bhp depending on the year. The weight is very close between a 3rd and 4th gen

Re: Stupid honda
The bigger and correct factor for 3rd and 4th gens is the gear ratio and type of transmission. 2.73 gears and you will have issues. 3.42 and a T5 will get you there better.
The other issue is even with ideal gearing is you will need to rev near 5000 rpm or higher. our engines don't like that. They fall on their face and stop making enough power.
A 190hp L69 with 3.73 and the .73 5th may come close but it will be turning near 5500 rpm.

Re: Stupid honda
Well I personally owned and solid my civic SI after 120k miles and I needed bigger car. Once loaded up with 3-4 people and 50+miles of daily commuting the lack of torque is evident in the K20A and painful. always ringing the motor out to 6k just to merge on hi-way, mileage typically was 21-22MPG!!! I bought a loaded M35 with twice the power and same or better gas mileage! LOL
So 166mph in a SI NOT!!!. It feels super quick driving inside of it. and it will scream and feels like an indy car on twisties. You can keep her screaming at 4500rom in 2 or 3r then just mash it and pull up to 8000 easy I think stock mine hit redline like 8400RPM 2nd cam doesnt even come on until 4500-5000 and you do not feel it until 6000 then it is like a mini turbo until 8000.
No torque so unless you get perfect launch or already at boil point they are 15sec cars maybe 0-60 is low because you can pull 60mph in 2nd if you hold rpm. but then it falls down.
Now onto the 3rd gen. My 92 RS L03 had a fuel cutoff for sure and it was 115mph. I know from personal experience. First thing I did was pull that out of the prom.
