top speed of the day
top speed of the day
On the way home from work tonight a fourth gen z28 and I decided to play around. I hit about 108 before I let off the gas and decided to slow down because of so many cars on the street and lots of pissed off cops here in texas around the holidays. Any one else get there ride over 100 today, if so how fast did you go?
Ha Ha
Bet you wish you had a heater. I guess this time of year it is colder than crap in Nebraska and oh yea since UT got stomped by Colorado "also", I hope Mr. Crouch can run 100+ mph next week and beat Miami.

I was actually suprised that I hung with him until about 85 or 90, then he started pulling away. When we started we were already going about 60 so I could only keep up for a little bit. Gotta love modded LT1's on the highway. My car is pretty quick of the line but the 305 just doesn't cut it at higher speeds. After the motor swap in Feb. or March they will only wish they could keep up!!!!!

Topped an 89 2.8 Corsica out twice a few years ago. Of course, that was about 110-115. Jumped it once. On the subject of jumping, I jumped the LTD a few months ago. You'll never guess what speed. 45mph. I had a car full of stuff and two other people when I see railroad tracks in the distance. There was a monster looking jeep riding my bumper, but I wondered at the time why he slowed down. Anyway, I floored it jokingly saying, "I'm going to jump them, I'm going to jump them..." As I got closer, I was like well, I better slow on down. So I did. 45mph. BANG!! The old granny pops a wheelie like a 10 second drag car, back wheels hit, they go up, I'm seeing the road straight ahead instead of below me, front tires hit and it nearly jumps again. Anybody else ever have something happen like that?

Oh yeah, also topped the LTD out a couple of times. Ithink I posted about that once before. Started to pass the F350 pulling a trailor. He hammers it. My needle drops of and shortly thereafter a move by him pretty quickly. I guessing he hit his 92 mph governor. Judging by the way I passed him, I would say I hit about 107-110. Thank *** he wasn't one of those guys who disconnects his governor, probably have another 10-20 mph without it. I would have been toast.

137 before I had to hit the brakes and test 137-0mph (short strip). Need a nice strip to see what the new motor will really do.

Jeff whats up?
Sounds cool about Saturday, but a few days after I got the car running I got in a head on collision with a drunk driver so it has a little front end damage. Thank g** neither of us were going fast and not too much damage occurred.
Oh yea, it took one full weekend to get the fuel pump changed, a whole day in the exhaust shop to get the pipes welded back together, a new high flow cat, and new 3" chrome tips sticking out the back. It ended up costing a but load of money but it made a huge difference.
I was hoping to get the car in perfect shape before I met up with you guys, but I guess crap like this happens. I am supposed to hear from the adjuster tomorrow so my car might be in the shop tomorrow or saturday morning getting fixed. If I don't have the car with me this weekend I will bring some picks so ya'll will have an idea of what it looked like before the wreck. Can't wait to see all the cars and I'll give you a call or shoot you an email Saturday to make sure everyone will be there.

I got my car (72) to about 115 once before I backed off. Thats fast enough for on the street.
I don't like going superfast in my car because of the WS-6 it is kinda unstable. But the highest I have been was 106. BUT I WAS STILL IN 3RD GEAR!!!! I will give you 2 guesses on what kind of rear end I have. Ding! Ding! 2.73
One night I was coming down I84 from hartford and spanked a 4.6 mustang and he let off at about 110 when I was way in front of him. Then a turbo VW gti gave me a good run to about 145 where I started to pull away to a top speed of 160-165, I have never been so scared driving a car in my life.

I had just put new tires all around, and all new (stock replacement) suspension components. There was this big hill on the road to the res which had to have been at least an 1/8th mile long with a 6% grade, and I thought it would be fun to top it out and see what happened. If you looked at this hill from the side, it kinda looked like a giant asphalt ski-jump ramp. Most of it was steep, then towards the bottom it crested and then down a smaller hill. Had my (ex)g/f in the car with me and she was putting on makeup and had her kit spread over the whole dash. Just before descending the large hill, without warning her, I floored it and had to have been doing close to 100 when I got to the bottom. I hit the crest of that second hill and just felt a little bump.....THEN I realized we were actually in the air about two feet off the pavement! When we came down, the car landed on all four wheels but bottomed the suspension so hard that all her stuff just kinda shot off the dash straight into the backseat, and she had this huge mascara smear up the side of her face!!! What really surprised me, was that nothing on the car seemed to have broken.
The second time I jumped a set of RR tracks, but that time the front came down way too fast and hard. Lost the tranny pan that time and bent the hub a little.

radar'd at 246 km\h by a cop.. was trying to get to the next town with a couple of friend before the bar closed (he was driving his 91 mustang 5.0 LX and the other had an 86 T-Bird 5.0.. couldn't keep up)
lucky for me he gave me a ticket for when he first caught me (at 144 km/h... just so i wouldn't loose my licence.. i kinda knew him and talk to him once in a while when i bump into him.. has a nice street bike CBR900 RR.. still wanna race him on that.....)
87 auto LB9, 350 cam (dunno what specs.. got it from a friend) and 3.27 rear gears

Stop writing with km/h, we have no idea, what speed that is. MPH is the way to go. Today on the highway I topped at like 85mph on RT17, about 50mph on the streets, but awhile back I took my car to 115mph (also on RT17), but it still had more go.

the 4.10 rear kinda limits top speed though
but hey I can rev it past the red line on this thing just a tad bit

I got my speedo from Adobe
Its graduated by 20's after 100mph instead of 10's.
Actually, I was wondering the same thing, not that very many of us do need one, but are there any speedometers that have a higher range? In light of my photoshop work, maybe a repainted electronic speedometer, with appropriate electronic converters (ala motorola HC08) would let us have a 0-160 speedo.
That actually was 4500 rpm in 5th (Tremec TKO - .68:1 ) with 3.89's in the rear.
So it was only about 105 mph.

I think i have a solution to your problem, ds83z28, I have an 83 Z28 too, but my speedo only goes up to 85mph. Im sure we can do a little trading. With my gears and my engine, 85 comes up quick!

Heh, the speedo is useless with the 3.89's anyway. I can legitimately pull 145 with the 3.00's. Its just fun to have a speedo that says 180...

it was a dyno run by someone else in 5th gear
so I cheat also
but my top speed with my car is 145 with my 4.10 rear and car was only pushing about 5000 rpms or so and I know I had more rev room even past the redline just my problem comes with drag and lack of ***** on a bumpy road

Well it wasn't today, but I have done 150+ before.
I used to have a '94 Z28. I had read all the magazines that said it would do it, so I just had to.
Where I live, country roads are a dime a dozen. So one day, on the way to my g/f's house, I dropped the hammer on that bad boy.
OH MY GØD!!!!!!
The car did great, but you can still feel the car lift from all the air underneath. It gets a little swoopy. Mainly cause the road I was on was a little hilly.
It was in 5th, only turning about 3800 RPM's w/3.42 rear gears. I put it in 6th and it did exactly what the magazines said, it slowly started to slow down. The stock LT1 doesn't have quite that much HP to keep the car going. And the 94 t56 has a .50:1 overdrive.
But telephone poles do start looking like picket fences!!! Totally unreal. I think my pulse quickens everytime I start talking about it.
Needless to say, I was pretty stoked when I got to my g/f's house.

I thought you were on a dyno. Either that or you took the pic just before you were about to smash into the brick wall in the top right of the pic

that as something just to the side of me not something I would have hit
I hit me a new one today...115. I know it can keep on going, but my engine was getting pretty hot though. I don't know why, I mean with 115 miles of wind through it??? But I do need to do it all the way though. Because my car before this one was a 1988 Oldsmobile 98, and it would do 117, and no more.
So I think it would be diligent to pass up my oldsmobile. Don't you tink?
