Those late model mustangs are pretty quick...

Had the iroc out today for a bit, and got behind a late model gt. I'm not a mustang guy so wether it was an '18 or a '15 I have no idea, lol. Car in front of him stopped to turn left, so when once there was open road in front of him i figured why not. I dropped first and jumped on it a little to see if he'd go, and he did! Was pretty close behind, for about 5 seconds! My car runs good but not that good. Heard a little tire chirp when the trans hit 3rd. Once he really got on it, yea, he was gone. Made me realize how much more work i need to do. Still fun tho. He actually waved me over into a car wash cause he wanted a closer look at my car. What do the newer standard gt's have anyway, like 400hp?

More than 400. My friend had a 17 ZL1 Camaro and it was stupid fast. Hate to think kids drive these cars.

Yeah, but which car is more fun to drive - meaning YOU drive the CAR, not the CAR drives YOU.

There is definitely a different feel to the older cars that I prefer myself. A lightweight third gen with 250-300hp feels like being shot out of a slingshot. The torque on some of the newer cars I've drove you just don't get it right off the line.

It was funny, he did make the comment that he knew i wanted to go when he saw my front end jump up in his mirror, lol! I did manage to hold my phone up and get a video but i can't post it? Showed it to my new girlfriend and she's like yea, you got smoked! I've seen the car around so he's kinda local. Maybe I'll make time this weekend to put the nitrous kit I have in. But his car doesn't have stock exhaust, so maybe he had some other bolt ons. He didn't say and I didn't ask.

I agree. From a dead stop side by side I kinda feel like I'd have been with him till about halfway thru second gear.

Re: Those late model mustangs are pretty quick...

My truck can hang with that Mustang through 1st gear too because my engine makes gobs more low- and mid-range torque.

Reminds me about a time I went to the drag races with my truck and ran cars that can turn 11 and 10 second time slips on real street tires with street-like 2 second 60' times. I'm not talking about the guys that put on slicks at the track and then run 12s on the street. I'm talking about the real deal 11 and 10 second cars in street trim. I'd be beside them all the way through 1st gear and then when they got traction it was like they were launched by a catapult from an aircraft carrier. It was impressive.

yea my duramax is the same way. Launches real good, but still running stock trans so can't beat on it too bad yet, lol

A young guy where I work (he's only 20) has a '16 GT with twin turbos and modified exhaust (no cats).
It's putting down 690 horsepower at the rear wheels. Just ridiculous. Of course it sounds like crap LOL!!! ...

Re: Those late model mustangs are pretty quick...

the 18's have quad exhaust tips, i came up on a 16'-17' gt with my vette out of the side of my eye that mustang nose came up in the air. we were even till i hit 3rd gear.

i don't think my camaro with a camme'd 6.0 ls would have stand a chance as i feel my vette is quicker than it.

Re: Those late model mustangs are pretty quick...

I am 44 years old. Over the years I have daily driven a 67 Camaro SS, 68 Camaro SS/RS, supercharged fox mustangs, a built N/A fox mustang, an 02 Z28 6 speed an 03 Terminator Cobra. All of these cars had drag radials on them. If you run up on a car as fast as your or faster,(there are tons of 12 second and even 11 second late model cars on the streets) the only thing that will help you beat them is traction. Even if you are a finesse drag racer, a bad surface will make you lose. Spend the money on a good drag radial and replace them when needed and tip toe around corners in the rain. End of story..... You will beat a much faster car with yours if you can hook everywhere. If its 20 degrees out no one is hooking so works most of the time.

Re: Those late model mustangs are pretty quick...

Tibo, not a lot done really. Accel base with SLP runners and matched plenum with dividers taken out. Some 1.52 roller tip rockers (Only put them in cause i got them cheap and did valve seals anyway). Still running stock manifolds, but have the high flow y pipe, magnaflow cat, and flowmaster exhaust. Plus, if it matters, bumped the timing a little and did the coolant bypass on the throttle body. Car definitely runs way better than stock, but got a ways to go before i can hang with the new generation of muscle cars, lol!

Those newer Mustangs are fun to toy with for me.

To me you have to watch out for MOST newer cars now days. My mom has a 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan that would have no problem clicking off a high 13 second 1/4 mile time.

My 2011 M56S Infiniti with intake mods, exhaust, tuning, built 7 spd trans (I COOKED THE 140K MILE STOCK ONE), 2,800 stall converter and drag radials on it, IS like being shot out of a sling shot and it keeps pulling until you let off the throttle. On street rubber FORGET about stomping it off the line. On drag radials it has been 12.2 @ 112 mph on a 1.6s 60' which is really moving for a 4,700 lbs (with me and my junk in it) race weight car. 428 HP and 434 TQ at the wheels with a torque curve that looks like a table top from 2,500-6,000 rpm and a 7,000 rpm redline make it a FUN car.

Even w/traction its tough to jump out...new cars have 8 and 10 spd trans with deep gears, nannies to make em all heros
I make more power than most and would get embarassed trying to run anyone these days esp from a dig. Excuses dont get a win..besides I like cheap insurance and freedom.

Fun toy for you? You realize the 18+ A10 cars can run the same times as you ran on drag radials with just a tune? I'm not saying you can't beat one because you certainly can, but you better be on your A-game, I guess I wouldn't call that toying with one?

Another point, you mentioned vehicle weight at RWHP of your Infiniti. I put the Ford Performance Power Pack 2 on my 2016 GT last fall, car already has a Borla cat back, no other engine mods. The power pack alone is supposed to be good for just shy of 30hp, '15-'17 cars are rated at 435hp. ('18+ 460hp) I haven't put mine on the dyno, but the other zillions of '15-'17 cars with the same mods put down 400-410rwhp. These cars weigh 3600-3700 lbs. without driver. Most guys with my mods are easily mid 12s on street tires. Your car is quick, no doubt, but similar mods on an S550 V8 car will be deep into the 11s, probably in the 10s for an A10 car.

My point is simply an S550 should be a good race for you on street tires and it could go either way. If you are wasting one it's an ecoboost car or a stock '15-'17 GT with an automatic and 3.31 gears, which is still a low 13 sec car.

As has been noted above, anyone in a thirdgen is going to have their hands full with even the slowest V8 S550 GT. The 383 T56 equipped GTA I had would have had it's hands full and probably lost to my GT, ESPECIALLY from a roll. These Coyote engines like RPM. After the tune mine rev limits at 7150 rpm, that was quite an adjustment for me after being in TPI cars since the mid 90s LOL.

Fast, Cuisinart, myself and other adults were talking actual 1/4 mile times and such. I haven't street raced in well over 10 years. I don't want to get caught and have my insurance rates go up. Damn I'm old now! LOL

I also came in here because there was conversation about S550 Mustangs and I had to come see what the hubbub was about now that I own one (which I never thought would happen).

Riiiiiiiiiiight.... What I was getting at, is there is always someone faster, and the documentaries sure make it look like that faster person is usually doing it by neglecting their family, having no life, and just generally being inbred hillbilly poor white trash without a lick of common sense. Point being does it really even matter?

You're 100% correct, but it's not just street racers. I've witnessed what you're talking about at circle tracks and drag strips as well....

By the way, here is a pic for reference, I might be the only member here that currently owns a S550 Mustang?

I do love the Coyote engine noise. Sounds great.

Part of me always wants to get into a GT350, driven 1 in anger on Road America. Damned fun and that 8200rpm redline is glorious.

This is funny. All these new rides are quick. Hell, my 18 Silverado will about run my 01 SS to the legal speed limit. My old standby third gen just has soul and uniqueness. I daily that SS weather permitting. The third gen is reserved for Sunday drives.
