Supercharged 4.6L Stang vs my Vette
So a friend of mine in his turbo civic came across this Mustang while cruising one evening. Its the 4.6L GT coupe, with a supercharger. Unfortunately, thats all i know about it. The only other details he added were that it was loud, and when the owner popped the hood, lots of smoke came pouring out. He said it was comsuming oil. So if its up to my friends, theyll be challenging this Mustang for me. Before i go into battle for them again, i have to ask, do i stand a chance? What do you think these things run? By the way, in addition to the mods in my sig, ive recently added an airfoil, ported the intake plenum, a 160 degree stat, relocated my MAT sensor into the intake tube, and raised my base timing from 6 degrees to 10. Id have an updated track time, but my local dragstrip doesnt open until late Feb (just 23 more days!!!) Thanks.

Depends on what year 4.6 stang. And with the details being pretty vague it's going to be hard to get a straight answer. I'm guessing if it's a 96-98 stang the best stock you'll see out of one of those cars is a high 14 to low 15 from what i've seen of them at the track. Add some exhaust work and a supercharger and I'd guess that it would be a close race with you if the car was in good tune but overall i think you would probably edge it out by a small distance depending on the better driver of course. If it's a 99+ GT and the car was in good tune with exhaust work and a supercharger I think that car will be pulling high 12's in the quarter to very low 13's with even a decent driver behind the wheel. I say go ahead and race and see what happens. Definitly nothing to lose.

Kind of need to know how much boost it's running and if it's intercooled or not. That makes a huge difference. Some street kits make 5 lbs of non-intercooled boost, some make 14 lbs of intercooled boost.
My guess is that you'll lose, because the average kit is running 9psi and with an exhaust and proper fuel system, that would put it in the 12s with a good driver. If I were you I would look at what else he has and then make your decision from there. Although if you race and win it would be really nice to say you beat a supercharged mustang.

I figured id probably lose this one, but if i can find him, ill race him anyway. You guys dont think the burning oil problem is going to be a hinderance? And you think that a low 15 sec car (remember, its the early 4.6 version) can shave a full 2 sec or more off his quarter mile time with a supercharger alone? Well, i got the same response from two Mustang guys, so i guess its true. Oh well, ill let you know how this turns out if i can find him. Thanks!
You have to remember that I'm taking into consideration that a 9psi supercharger is like a 150+ shot of Nitrous. So there you have a now mid 13 second car. Then you take into account the better fuel injectors and pump, to not gain too much in 1/4, but should put him near low 13s. Then you said it was loud, so I think full exhaust and there puts him into the 12s with a good driver. The oil problem may come into play, but if he put the money into the car for the supecharger he will probably have that fixed. I still say race him and good luck.
