my friend just bought a 94 thunderbird v8, and wants to race. I was wondering what those ran stock.

I could be wrong. but I would say more like a low 16. Those year mustangs barely ran low 15's with auto's, and the thunderbirds are a lot heavier. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

What do you guys think about the earlier turbo coupe t-birds...like the '87-'89 tc's...I know they are 4 cylinder turbo autos....what do they run??? Are they really slow? They are nice looking cars...and are they easy to mod? What kind of money is needed to put into one to beat the L98's?? Thanks...my friend has one.

The 94 T-birds had 4.6's, not 5.0's and yes they were slow.

Turbo 2.3's are easy to mod just like any other turbo car. There's several Turbo 2.3L Mustangs running in the 9's and it's not uncommon to see them running 11's and 12's and still being driven every day. Add some weight to the turbo 2.3 Mustang and you've got a thunderbird turbo coupe. If you're interested in checking out some of the available mods for them, go to Racer Walsh.

94' thunderbird with the 4.6 is a low 16 second ride all day long. I don't think they do any better than that. Well from what i've seen at the track anyways.

I don't know what they run in stock form, but if it's an SVO, buy it! It's worth more than twice that much if it's in decent shape. They're pretty rare and are becoming more and more collectible every day.

The turbo coupe's are very easy to mod, with just a few dollars at the hardware store you can have damn near instant boost and about 19-20 lbs of it fully adjustable to whatever you are brave enough to run. My ford friend had one, it was amazing how fast the boost would come on after he modded it. It was a 5-speed car, he put a conical K&N on it jacked up the boost and ran 15.1's all day with a 1.9 60' on street radials. He had hardly any money in the car. You can find the diagrams to make the boost adjustable and get rid of the turbo lag online, but I do not remember the name of the site. You could do the same mods to the SVO mustang.

Thanks. My friend with his Eclipse GSX(AWD 5-speed 4 banger turbo) is going to make the do it yourself boost control. So I guess it should be the same on both cars. That GSX is going to be pretty damn quick...as long as he doesnt screw up in making the boost control...that would suck. He said it only takes a few dollars...then he is gettin the boost control gauges and stuff.
