mustang #'s

ok, so my friend sold his little grand am for a crazy price.. dumped a grand into his camaro (which, i think is being overkilled) and then i went with him car shopping.. well.. at an auction.. he got.. *coughs*.. a mustang..
1985 Mustang GT, auto.. he got it for dirt cheep.. high milage car tho.. needs some body work.. (why it was cheep.. but he's an autobody guy.. so he dosn't care)
in any which way.. it'll never beat his camaro (he's theoretically suppose to his 12's with it once he gets his rear end in).. now.. what does that year mustang run stock?.. another mustang friend of mind told me there were a few that were HOs or something and they had some 230 hp and ~300lbs of tq..
make sense to you guys? (looking towards nick's direction)
but most has some ~185 hp and ~250 tq....?

???
cuz if it's the first.. i'll have to get my *** in gear and get some more stuff done to my car or else his "beater" will beat me!

The 1987-1992 Mustangs were rated at 225 hp and 300 tq, his 85 auto was rated at 190 or so and about 260 tq. You should be able to take him, I would put him at a low 16, high 15.

Depends on if it's a 5 speed car or not. If so, it's factory rated at 215 horsepower and with little more than an edlebrock intake, Holley 600 - 650, and gears they'll really get up and go. Also, keep in mind they're lighter than the EFI 5.0's. This was also the first year they came with roller cams.

1/4 mile times for the 5-speeds in 1985 ranged from 14.30's - 15.90's in magazine tests depending on options and rear axle ratio.

The automatic's in 1985 were significantly slower.

k, got a better look at the thing..
C4 i do belive.. EFI (it's like, a TBI or something) and the injectors are semi clogged.. do all mustang gt's come with factory headers? what else.. a/c.. cruise.. some alarm sys. that works when it wants to.. (starts off for no reason after being parked for a while.. pos alarm).. serpentine setup.. seems like 2.7x in the rear

unless he gears it, does something to the intake and or heads...
ack, no problemo! i'll even go 3/4 throtle!.. took a ride in it yesterday night..
now... he riped out the whole interrior and he's getting new front fenders, hatch, both doors (we looked at it closer and well.. they were toast.. almost.. but he works at an auto wrecker doing autobody repair so he get stuff cheep.. and does it himself).. he's wondering if he should keep the thing stock (it is his "beater".. but he has an urge to.. make.. things.. overkilled.).. knowing him he'll put on another intake and gears... but he's undecided as it'll be his winter car..
they have (kinda) free mods for tpi... what about TBI fords?.. pretty much the same? (hey, even tho it's a mustang.. it's still no civic and deserves to be somewhat quick)
nic?.. 5.0mustang? be nice if this thing could hit at least low 14's.. hate getting done in off the lights by v8 familly vehicals, kids and their parents car..

it wouldnt be TBI, if its the 302 then its either carb or the EFI from the later 5.0's the V6's had the CPFI; is it maybe a 6????

And Nic I thought that 85 was still flat tappet in the 302s, and 86 was the actual year of the Roller.

the thing looks exactly like a 305 TBI throttle body... injectors and all
and it's a V8.. the vehical registration says so.. and an 85. (and a GT and i'm not that stupid as to not notice 4 plugs per side and the distributor sitting right in front of the motor.. still think that's odd.. but.. convineant..)
things's got wires and hoses to kingdome come!.. hell, i thought my car had wires and hoses... damn...

The non-HO was a non-roller, CFI motor making between 165 and 180 horsepower depending on production date. If it had factory headers, it was the later version, but keep in mind the factory headers on the 5.0's are still very restrictive. They were backed by AOD's.

The 85 HO motor was the first roller motor used in the 5.0's.

Yeah, '85 Automatics ran CFI (Central Fuel Injection) which kinda worked like TBI. It sucked. I beleive in '85 it was rated at 180HP, while the 5-spds got a 210HP 4-barrel 302.

Also, 85 was the last year the Mustangs ran single exhaust. They ran stainless headers into a Y-pipe and single muffler on the drivers side. BUT then can be converted to 86-93 exhaust just by changing to a dual hump crossmember and installing any H-pipe and dual exhaust from 86-93. Also, i beleive the CFI intake can be ripped off and swapped to a Carbed 4-barrel easily. This is what I would do to that 85.
