88 IROC vs. 96 Mustang
96's were actually the first year for the 4.6s. Crappy heads on 'em too...Didn't flow too well...As far as more power...if any, not by a whole lot. More than likely not enough to make up for the weight difference....maybe Nic will chime in...he's much more versed in Mustang lore than myself

Actually, the hp is the same between the SN95 5.0 and the early 4.6s, however the 5.0 had abunch more torque. So, if i'm not mistaken his new car is actually slower, given that it has similar mods.

His previous car was faster. Your gonna beat him by even more this time.
Yea, he has the 4.6 if it's a 96, and those motors are dogs. The DOHC Cobra motors really like gear, but he has a GT so it won't benefit as much. I would say you would take him, but I'm not really into the 4.6s, Nic would probably know more.

So is it a 95 or 96? Regardless of which year...with those mods, it IS faster than a stock 93 GT. The 3.73's are perfect for the early 4.6L 5-speed cars or the 5.0 5-speed cars. The exhaust system is also probably worth a solid 20 horsepower at the wheels. I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be running low, low 14's with some decent driving.

A 95 with a 4.6 and a 96 with a 5.0? I think you're getting the husband/wife's cars mixed up. His is probably the 95 and hers the 96. A 4.6 to 5.0 swap would be ridiculously stupid and expensive. We're talking different K-member, transmission, computer, wiring harness, TCM, etc. For the price involved in the swap you could have the 4.6 running 12's

Th only 5.0 swaps into 96-up stangs I have heard about have been in V6 Mustangs. I have never heard of a 4.6L being ditched for a 5.0L. There isn't that much difference in power for it to be worth it. Mods for the 5.0 are cheaper but he has only the same baic mods you can put on a 4.6L
A set of 99+ take off heads could greatly improve the 96-98 SOHC engines.
