If so, I was wondering if you/they "raced" a black 5.0 on 360 Saturday night? I played with a light blue camaro a little, but we never had a chance to really run them. Then when we were about to finally have some open road to run on, he pulled a fly by on me from 5 car lengths back while I was slowing down for another car turn off out of our way. I just want to know who this guy is and where I can find him so I can give that pretty little camaro of his a beat down he'll never forget

if i run anything other than premium in my vette, ill get detonation (only in extreme situatuions like going uphill with the A/C on and engine temp above 200 degrees). higher octane allows you to dial in more timing, not to mention its absolutely necessary in high compression engines (LT1). its has to be benificial. are any of the turbo buick guys running 87 octane? i doubt it.

I run 15* base timing with aluminum heads. I've tried going higher but my car makes the most power at 15* and it doesn't detonate on 87, so why run more octane than I need? My compression ratio isn't even 9.0:1 with the pistons I'm running. Next summer I'm planning on stepping up to a 10.5:1 347 and I'll be sure to run 93 then, but until then, the money I save on gas can go into my savings fund for the 347
What you idealy want to do is run the lowest octane you can without detonation. The higher octanes burn slower and are only necessary to control premature detonation.

thats good, i figured you must have had a reason. I didnt give you the benefit of the doubt and just thought you were running 87 cause it was cheaper. Sorry. Man, running 12s on 87 octane... how cool is that?
