GB Gathering

Where do you guys want to meet up?

What day do you guys want to meet up?

The bend will be so packed next week-end it won't even be funny. We could consider meeting up at a park in one of the small towns just outside (Parkhill), do our BBQ there, and then roll into the bend as a pack. darbleinad knows of a few good places if we choose this idea.

We need to figure this out ASAP.

i am trying to figure out who to contact about using the Community Park at Corbett. it is a little village on 81 Hwy between Parkhill and Grand Bend. there is a pavillion there and some open space. i believe they have had small car shows there before. i am not sure if you have rent the place or what. i will try to find that out. the other choice is the park in downtown parkhill; it has a pavillion and we wouldnt have to rent it or book it, cause it is a regular public park.

they have also had car shows at the park in parkhill. parkhill is a town of about of 1700. Hwy 81 and 7 meet at the south end of parkhill and 81 Hwy runs turns into main street. the other place would be the "Scenic Look Out" just outside of town on Hwy 81. it has "Scenic view, ample parking and some picnic tables. lots of room for a BBQ. again, we could just meet there, no booking things or renting the place. the scenic look out would be good and easy to find. in my opinion it would be the best place. but we can decide.

cool. the more i think about it, the better i think the "Scenic Lookout" would be. its right on 81 Hwy (the 1 of the 2 main highways that go into Grand Bend), so that makes it easy to find and its only like 15 minutes to the bend. plus we dont have to book anything or rent anything.

i work saturday durign the day and cause i am a poor bastard, i need the hours. so i can be out there by 6:30 or a little before on saturday. but if saturday afternoon is better for most people, thats totally cool. sunday is fine as far as i know. i am not sure if everyone wants to have a evening/supper BBQ and cruise into the bend in the evening or do the BBQ in afternoon and do an afternoon cruise. i would suggest an evening cruise, cause that place will be pumping in the evening. again this is just a suggestion.

So when will the big get together be? Saturday? Are there any reasonably priced motels within an hours drive? I'm assuming most of you guys are just going to drive up and then go home.

yes there are... there is the Strathroy Motor Inn Motel just off the 402 in Strathroy and the is the Colonial Hotel in grand bend, along with many other motels and such. the ones in grand bend may already be booked. the Motor Inn Motel in Strathroy might be convient cause it is right off the 402. the number is (519) 245-4480. then of course there is all the hotels and motels in London. most of which are located in south london near the 401. that would be well over an hour drive to the bend. i think one of the residences at UWO have a bed and breakfast thing going. the UWO campus is located in the northwest corner of the city. you could make it to the bend in hour or less (depending on fast you drive) from there.

I would likely put up a tent myself. Of course- if there's no 'organized' activity amongst people from around here- I won't waste my time going.

Where do tents go up? What are the chances of getting a spot on Saturday night? Anyone hear any reports on rain next weekend?

If there's a few people around here going to pitch a tent- maybe we should co-ordinate an 'area' together to socialize/watch each others cars?

-Sorry, forgot- if I go up- I would arrive sometime late Saturday afternoon...

All sounds good to me. I plan on coming Saturday morning sometime, and staying for the day then head home at night. I plan on making a day of it.My twin boys are coming with me.
So this barbeque? Is this just a bring what you want to eat kinda bbq, or is there something organized? Do I need to bring a portable bbq? I will definitly need directions on where to go once I reach GB.
What is the cost to go into the Motorplex as a spectator? Are we just going to meet at the bbq or is there somewhere that we can hook up, say at the campsite or where-ever?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a guy that hates not knowing where I'm going or not having definite plans.
Let me know...

for all you KW guys, you will pass by the "Scenic Lookout" (which is just outside Parkhill; between Parkhill and Grand Bend) on the way to the motorplex; i am assuming you guys will just take hwy 7 east to parkhill and then turn right on to Hwy 81, drive through parkhill, and then continue on to Grand Bend (staying on Hwy 81) the whole time.

as for the BBQ, yeah i think its just bring what you want to eat, so if you have a portable BBQ, bring it. johnyIROC and I just thought it would be nice to have like a meeting place where we can chill for awhile, check out all the nice cars that people are bringing (i know i am pumped to see everyones beautiful cars), and then we can all cruise on over to the Bend.

I guess the question is, is this going to happen on Saturday and if so, what time do we meet there?
I am sure it won't hard to find a bunch of Third Gens in a park, so I won't even ask where in the park to go.

Count me in

I expect to be in GB on saturday for some of the morning and all of the afternoon. Give me directions to the pre-meet and I'll see you there.

The BBQ idea is great but may be a little tough to organize this late in the game. Maybe we should meet at the park and then lunch at a local eatery ?

I am going to make a post for the KW area guys to see if we can head out as a group to GB so be sure to post directions to whatever park we decide on meeting at ok ?

thx,
RP.

i think an evening meet at like 6-6:30 would be good. we can "chill for a bit", meet everyone and then cruise into the bend all together. if we dont have a BBQ thing could hit an eatery in grand bend, even though they will be busy. there is nothing real good in parkhill, but there are 1 or 2 places.

keep the posts coming guys. we need to figure out an exact time and day (it looks like its going to be on saturday)

There are some of us KW guys who are planning on coming out for the afternoon on Saturday. Check the post I made on the board.

Okay, from the responses we're getting, I think it's safe to lock it down for Saturday. I'll make it official and put it in a sticky with a map.

As for the BBQ, we originally had big plans, but after everyone started arguing over where it should be, we decided just to play it by ear.

I can't really fit our BBQ into my camaro... but I will try and find a way to get a BBQ out there.

The plan is for everyone to meet each other for the first time... check out cars, then roll into grand bend as a pack.

After that, those who are going to the track, can split off... those who want to cruize can cruize.

ok we still need a time. some time in the afternoon would be best and not in the dark. it makes cheching out the cars a lot harder
besides some people have a long way to travel and may want to start heading back just after dark as well as make it a hole day thing.

The time doesn't matter to me because I will be there on Friday.

The only problem with 6:00 is the KW guys will likely be arriving earlier. We don't want them all to have to backtrack to Park Hill.

Can we get everyone's input on a time for Saturday?

PS: If anyone wants to get together Friday, I'll be at the track.

i might be around grand bend on friday night... we will see. i know a real good party on friday night near parkhill.

P.S. Jason, i was riding in my friends sunbird (late 80s, early 90s)the other night and it had the same steering wheel (or one very, very similar) as the one we saw at Shaws that you wanted. so next time we go we can check out those cars for that wheel too.

That's weird... I was riding in MY friends vert sunbird on Sunday, and noticed the same thing.

There is some differences though.

I think I'll just get the one from Coreys...

Considering nobody's going to commit or state a meeting or whats going on, i don't think I'll be making the 7 hour journey.

If organized, I'll go in the summer.

Is everyone okay if we make it official for 2:00 PM on Saturday in Parkhill?

If no one has a problem with this, I will do up a map and sticky it tonight.

alright we got a time set. i cant be there cause i work, but thats cool. i will be heading to the bend right when i get off work. so hopefully i will see some you guys. i should be in the bend by 6:30. maybe i can meet up with anyone that is still there.

anyway, the meeting place is the "Scenic Lookout" just outside of Parkhill. as you are leaving Parkhill on Main Street (which is Hwy 81), towards Grand Bend, the Scenic Lookout is just outside of town, on the right side of the road. It is before the parkhill damn, so if you hit the damn, turn around.

Lean harder towards GB ok -- it will be great to have you along.

We are meeting at the Tim Hortons at 401/Homer Watson at 10:30 and hanging around till 11:00 then will leave for GB shortly after 11:00.

If you are westbound on the 401 the Homer Watson exit is right after HWY8 North to Kitchener/Waterloo. There is a THs, McD's and Sunoco gas at the Homer Watson stop.

I figure we'll leave shortly after 11 and it should take us about 1hour and 20 minutes to get to GB. We will be there well before 2:00 meeting time.

thx,
RP.

You can check into mapquest.com for some help getting from a to b. I use it alot when I am on biz trips and can't get a GM Onstar rental. (By-the-way next time you rent a car try to get an Onstar they are great).

If you are coming from the GTA the 401 will definitely be the fastest. Take 401 west to Homer Watson then take the north turn at the light (right). The next light turn left into the Sunoco/McDs/TimHortons complex.

It takes about 40 minutes to get from Pearson Int'l Airport to KW using the 401 and travelling at 130kmh (same speed everyone else does). So from 427 & 401 it is about 40 minutes drive.
