most windows on car doors function in both the open and closed position. this function is usually preformed by pressing a power operated switch or turning a manual crank. setting the windows to an open position will allow fresh outside air into the car.

BWAHAHAHAHA........NEW BEST THREAD EVER

Dave, seriously, my car gets like that sometimes as well. No matter what I do, I allways have hot air coming out from underneath the dash........and from the seat next to me, but that's a whole other problem.

yeah....seriously the vents may be stuck in the open positiopn or something like that.

if you cant get the vents to close you could solve the problem by by passing the heater core, but dont remove it or do anything to drastic as you will need it for heat and defrost come fall and winter.

Mine gets hot as hell too. If I open the ash tray the air comming up through there is like having the heat on full blast.

As for the "she'll get wet in seconds" bit that what it's all about isn't it.

I have an 88 SC just like you and I know exactly what you mean.. cept my air comes in around my legs... I can only feel it when I have shorts on, but its quite pronounced...

I tracked it down and on my car its the door! The weight and orientation of my door is that the top is rotated a few degrees inward to the car.. this makes the lower part of the door jut out and act like an air scoop. air dynamics finally force the air into the cabin area.

The vents are supposed to be closed when vent is not on therefore ensure that you're not getting air into your car via the main vents. Check to see that when the switch on the temp is on cold, the heater box is closed off as well.. if it has come loose air from an partially open vent may end up passing through the heater core and then oven...

I painted my car black about 2 years ago, but man was it ever hot... black exterior, black interior and no a/c drove me almost nuts... switched to blue and temps became bearable...

I got my a/c recharged recently since I finally couldn't take the humidity... this is from a guy that skipped out on winter 2000 Canada comepletely in California... for me, I don't mind heat.. its humidity that drives me nuts and Southern ontario gets way more humidity than I ever saw in cali...

ok ok

Yes I know how to use a window, and NO its not a button!
I got the old skool **** which I prefer over the crappy power windows. Its just insane sometimes, like I got sweat coming into my eyes and I cant see anything, its that hot, like guys, I can take heat.. I can take a lot of it, but when humidity is right in ur car and u got no cold air coming in, its like a suana!!
And im not going to rip out the heater, casue its brand new.
Im going to mess around with the vents and stuff..
screw this..

Doesn't your car have a bypass valve for the coolant going into the heater core? If not, set up a manual by-pass valve. This way you can eliminate the coolant circulating throught the heater core, thus eliminating the hot air.

My GTA has a vaccuum operated bypass valve, but it doesn't work that well, cause I still get some heat down by my feet... but when it gets too humid, I just press the button that says "Max" on my A/C controls

All jokes aside... the bypass valve would be your best bet, and rather simple to install.

BWAHAHAHAAHAHAHA..what happened to the weatherstrip there?Did the high velocity runs overcame adhesion of the weatherstrip and/or did the condensation, oxidation and high pressure(when closing)caused it to breakdown in the molecular level..Good analysis sir

Daz.. you can be a real jerk at times...

The weather strip is old. The air pressure created at speed is incredible. You stick your hand out at 140kph? How about at 200kph... fun stuff hehe.. With a part of the door acting like a scoop its no wonder air gets in there. I can actually feel it come out from my door handle too when I stick my hand there as well. I did some banging on the inside of the quarter panel along with trying to adjust my door orientation and it lessened the effect.

just kidding there...Behind the door handle/release handle there is a plastic piece.Remove that and you should see a rubber gasket behind it..Same with the doors..Aside from the weather strip there should be a piece of rubber under the door panels...If air is going in there then it wouldnt be hot.,especailly at idle..In the cabin is high pressure and the outside is low so the flow lo and behold would be outward..

on n on and on on n on..(80's rap)

One morning last week I noticed a lot of very warm air along the side of the driver side door, near the front. So to fix it, I took the roofs off on the way home that afternoon.

My problem is probably the bypass valve that nblanchard mentioned. Oh well, at least this is a problem I can live with.

hahahah this thread is hillarious Do you have a manual transmission in your car? My buddy has a 5 speed in his rustang (same 5 speed tranny that comes in our cars) and it heats up like CRAZY whenever I'm sitting shotgun and I have my arm resting on the E brake you can feel heat rising through the console. Same with though the ash tray.. The T5 tranny's do heat up and cause a lot more heat inside the car than the auto's...
