First time driving the TA in 15 months...
and I drove my 86 TA 3 times this afternoon. This is the first time i've driven it since May, 2001 when i started the 350/TH350 swap. I almost never thought i'd drive this car again at times. The problems i've had with this car would fill a book. Several small problems still need to be resolved, the biggest one is getting the electric fan to work properly. I'm going to wire it up to a switch for the time being. It used to give me issues when the 305 was in there as well.
Anyways, the car runs really well considering the timing isn't even setup, nor is the carb. Doesn't really seem all that quick, but it should get a bit better with tuning. For now, only short trips with it, as my exhaust consists of a muffler clamped at the end of the y-pipe where the cat usually is. I doubt I'll fool any cop with that setup

If it still runs by this Saturday, I may take it down.
I have zero confidence in the car, so we'll see how things go. My 10 day permit happens to run out on the 11th, so its still legal for Saturday.
I'll probably be there though, even if i don't bring the TA.

That's all you need at staging no confidence in the car at the line lol... Get her up and running the way you like and she won't diasappoint when you do take her out to the track.. for now don't risk it... especially with all the work you put in...
It's a great feeling to get everything back togehter!
How do you like the sound of the muffler on the Y-pipe? A few years ago I used to run with no cat-back whatsoever, and I thought it actually sounded good.

Did you pull the 350 from a bone stock late 2nd gen? if so you would have been bettre off keeping the 305 conidering it is probibly quicker.
I belive most late 2nd gen's ran 16 sec flat in the 1/4 mile , with the 350, while the 190hp 305 was capable of low 15's with proper gearing "stock"
Please tell me the motor has mods?

Yes, both came out of a 78 Camaro Z28. The motor has some mild mods, but nothing serious. It has a set of 305 heads and a mild 214/222 split cam. It has a 2400 stall converter and the exhaust has been done. I have a edelbrock RPM manifold for it was well, if i ever get around to installing it. Even if the 350 was stock, I'd take it in a second over a 305. I think the LG4 was rated at around 150hp, which is pretty lame. My old 85 Z28 with the LG4 only ran a 16.8 when it was 'stock'.
I didn't swap the motor looking for power. The old 305 was pretty much done in. It was starting to smoke, and i had the 350 in the garage anyway. I had been told it was rebuilt, and when i took it apart, it looked in pretty good shape. What i though would be a project that would take a few weeks, turned into a 15 month trek.
