I ran a total of 14 runs... I think I got my money's worth
Can't wait for the next drag day... depending on my financial situation, headers may come sooner than later...
After noting what palric and 92 zeddar have in their cars (bigger cam and better exhaust) I'm gonna go that route and see if I can take it up a notch...
The hunt for 14 sec begins... seems just like yesterday I was hunting the 15 sec range...

HEY SLADE!!!!!
Now wait here a minute! Don't polished heads/intake count as an engine mod for HP increase???? Anybody care to respond. How much hp is that good for? If any?
All righty then.......after dyno day I'm going to drop in a few mods myself(just need to win the lotto first).
I don't know Slade....I thought the cars were equal but I think your rear gears, polish job and rear tires had a big play in your time.
We'll see what happens when the 3.73 gears go in and some better gripping tires.
Don't worry man, I'm not knocking you. For the mods you've put in you sure got great results. If I can save up some money I would like to eventually do some engine mods. I've had the car for 5 years and I haven't done a thing with the motor.
Until next time.............

Well, this will be the last opportunity for me to race, so I will try my best to make it. I gotta know if I can even break a 16. I know that the acceleration in my car has improved, but I haven't a clue as to what it can actually do. I have to get my shiftkit installed first, though.
Anyone have any realalistic insight what an LG4 with an Edelbrock Performer Intake, 650 Holley carb, K&N airfilter (open element) and a Transgo shift kit will do int the 1/4 mile? Just wondering...

darbilenad has a cam and dual exhaust... hence the 15.3...
as for polished intake/heads, its not ported if that's what you mean.. I just cleaned it up a bit with sandpaper while I had it apart.. lotsa carbon deposit at the time, I may have gotten a bit carried away with the paper but I never got a chance to port it professionally.
The 3.23's are worth the most in terms of trap speed as I had you almost everytime with trap speed, just not trap time. Your better midrange torque is what got the better of me.

Slade... I was making a comparison between Brad and Kev.... I think Kev will be in the low 15's with his setup.
EDIT: I just noticed that Kevs87 doesn't have headers... that will hold him back large because the LG4 manifolds are only suitable for anchoring watercraft.

The 3.27's will help a good amount. You won't embarass yourself at all... take darbilnad... he stalled on a run hehe no ragging on that though since he pulled in a 15.6 easily...
We're all friends here and I agree the only way you could embarass yourself is to show up in a civic.. hehe

Well, I don't have a Civic, but I might slap on a Type R sticker on the fender, I heard that it's good for atleast 40 hp.
I guess I will have to wait and see. First the dyno to see what gains if any, I acheived with the new setup, then to test it out at the track.

I'll be there with my latest mod -- new wax. Maybe I can break 15 that way ?
Hey has anyone done corrected times from 92 fahrenheit from last Saturday ? I hear the TBFM guys were all running 3/10s slower due to the heat. Wonder what those 12.xx second LS1s do on a good day ???
Just curious -- I know my Formula was running slower than usual (or was that me running slower than usual...). Hey man I had a great time even though I only did 5 runs. Is was great to see everyone out and hope to see more next time. And I still made it home in one piece the clutch did not act up at all.

I don't know the formula for corrected times at different air temps, but wouldn't that only apply in cases like with your car Palric (with cold air) or true ram air or totally exposed carbs or injection?
If a car is sucking air from under the hood (like mine) I wouldn't think that comes into play.
There are definite advantages to to getting outside air.

Hey Kev.......
..at least your not running with 3.08's like me
I embaressed myself running 15.6 with a 305 TPI motor. I truly believe that if I had my old 3.42's I would have knocked off a few tenths of a second. My brothers turbo laser can pull better times.
Well the time wasn't that bad but could have been better. The hot weather did have a play in my times. I've felt my car go better at night on the DVP than at the track.
Come out next time and we'll have a blast.

I had a blast!!! It was good to see I turned a stock 16-17 second car into a 15 sec car. Shows that I had some clue about wtf I was doing all those late nights messing here and there on the car...
For my next trick, its to pull a low 15 possible 14 outta my hat (next year mind you) with another round of relatively minor mods (headers and cam)
See they make A/C for a reason... its to keep ya cool when you wait in line to be staged hehe...

hehheehhe......my first run of the day was funny.......she just died off the line and Slade1 handed me my ***. i believe i ran a 28.XX.....hahaha......i was laughing all the way down the track. my carb is in need of a serious rebuild.....i ran my 15.32 with secondaries that are not working properly. Kev, you will easily be in the 15s.....however some exhaust mods would really help things. i picked up almost 4 tenths with by puttinbg on my dual exhaust and this was over my Dynomax super turbo catback (2.5" mandrel bent pipe), no cat (2.5" pipe in place of cat), flowtech headers, and the ridiculously restrictive stock LG4 y-pipe. agian i picked up those 4 tenths with a bad carb. hey Kev, maybe you want to buy my super turbo muffler (2.5", dual 2.5" out)? anyway...bring you car out and she what happens....i am sure she will run well. also i believe by 87 GM had upped the compression on the LG4s..please correct me if i am wrong. i am "blessed" with the 8.6:1.

I guess I won't be too embarrassed, so long as I don't stall it on the line
.
Anyhow, thanks for the encouragement. I will do my best to be there.
Brad, I pulled a measily 147 RWHP and 232 ft/lbs of torque. This was with a bad carb and no intake. Since then I have replaced the carb and the intake and did a tuneup on the car. I took Irockers advice and went with the Wells ProGold series cap & rotor and Ac/Delco plugs. It has a pretty smooth idle now. I also have the K&N filters that you see in the pic. When I did the dyno, I did it with my stock airfilter on the first run and I had 146 RWHP and 215 ft/lbs of torque. I know this sounds pretty measily compared to alot of you guys, but I have to start somewhere. Atleast I saw a gain of 17 Ft/lbs with the K&N's.
How much are you asking for the muffler? I just have a Walker muffler and the ungodly 2 1/4" stock exhaust pipes.
Actually I just saw that it's for 2.5" pipe so I don't think it would fit.
Well I guess the next dyno day will tell all...

There is no telling how hot under the hood from car to car but ambient air temp is ambient air temp regardless the vehicle. It is the value the track can correct for with-regard-to elapsed times and speeds. Where is Slade1 ? I bet he has a formula for this tucked away somewhere...
So what I was looking for was the correction say to 72f from 92f ambient air temperature.
thx,
RP
I think that's what I was trying to say.
Your car, taking outside air can be adjusted.
Just my theory, but a car that takes air from under the hood at for eg.300 F. or higher, shouldn't loose 3/10's if the outside air was 20 F. warmer. With the cooling system and fans running, I'm not sure the air temp under the hood would increase that much.
Could be wrong. It would be interesting to test it.

The '79 was a 6.6 litre. A 403cu.in. Olds motor. Not the fastest in the 1/4, 15 sec flat, but on the highway it really moved.
It was a nice car and very realiable. I put 240,000km on it in 11 years and other then regular maintance, the most serious problem was a new battery.
I like the early 2nd gens too. Once had a chance at a 70 1/2 T/A. The guy wanted big bucks.

I know this is a huge longshot, but what are the odds you'd still be running at around 7pm or so? I work in Cambridge until 5pm. I can try and screw off early...but it would mean the planets would have to alligned, the wind would ahve to be out of the west, and I'd have to hop on one foot with my eyes closed (and you get the idea)...

Oh well...I just read through that bizarro BBQ thread. I'm thinking I might not be missing much anyway. What was up with that? The first 2 or 3 posts were on topic and then it turned into some sort of adolescent testosterone fest.
How was work yesterday? I went fishing with my dad, my fiance, and a friend from work. (We brought in 1 chinook and 4 rainbow trouts. I'm not like a big fisherperson or anything, but it's nice to get out in the boat and catch some rays.) It sure was a gorgeous day. I drove thrugh your hometown both to and from Forest yesterday. Today, I'm just trying to find something to do until later this aft when I have to go to Hamilton.
