College, Or School, Or Whatever...
Just bracing myself for tomorrow...the endless sea of aluminum wings the college parking lot will provide is gonna be sickening...
Anyways, just a few random things. I have my eye on a rusted out T/A, late-80's I believe, for the engine/GFX swap, etc. It's rusted out pretty bad, but the GFX are in perfect shape, and the engine runs fine. It has no tranny, but I'm pretty sure the stock automatic (out 'o' a 2.8) will bolt up just fine to a 305 TPI...? I remember reading about the trannys being used in even some Vettes, but I'd like to be sure before I drop any serious money...(well, not really BIG $...). The rear-end is good too, and anything over this 2.73 will be great...plus it has all the goodies I'd need for the swap, even the exhaust is in decent shape.
So, I'm looking at paying around $450-$500 for this beast, and start picking it apart when I get it home. I imagine the parts I'll use plus what I can pull and sell here and there will more then make up for what I'm going to pay. Plus I learn how to tear down and rebuilt an engine...gotta learn sometime, I guess. Any opinions would be appreciated...I really wanted a 350, but just can't seem to find anything decently priced. Thx all.

Oh man tell me about it. I'm still in highschool, LAST YEAR!, so there are going to be a handfull if not more of those winged wonders. But than again, it's always nice to pull into the school parking lot with those headers and pipes. As you go by you just watch them gaze and gawk at you and what do you do? Oh, you laugh of course! About your rebuilding process. I'm going through that as we speak. Rebuilding a 350 TPI, well actually a 383 Stroker TPI setup. And let me tell you, it's a great feeling when you fire up the engine and realize that, yes, you did that! You created the beast that is rumbling before your eyes and ears. I might just be babbling on and on about this, but you will feel the same once you have completed your rebuild
Best of luck to ya!
Best of luck to ya! Here is a word of advice.. make sire your car is running problem free for a while, before you start selling parts and/or getting rid of the parts car. You'll kick yourself if you need a part that you could have had for free from the parts car.

Thats a great point Nathan, after I done my tranny swap I was in that situation and I sold everything right away and then had to buy the same parts.
A transmission from a 2.8 V6 will not work with a V8. The bellhousing is much smaller on the V6 transmission and will not line up with the 305.
Still, the car sounds like an ok deal. You could get a V8 700R4 from the junkyard for maybe a couple hundred bucks.

We need a dedicated spot to park all of the muscley-domestics out there..I saw a few nice Stangs, I wonder if there's a way to round people up and park in a designated area....?
