Ok, I'll keep this short and sweet - I can get 2 vehicles upcoming, for one price - a Cutlass Calais for a winter beater, certifiable and e-testable...the second an early 80's Impala with a 350 "Turbofire" carb under the hood. I know very little about these model Impalas, but I do know the engine is in great shape. Both cars - $650. Would this be a rediculous thing to do, obtain this Impala [engine]...? Is it really worth my time....? Opinions as always, bros, much appreciated...

I am not 100% sure but I think those early 80's Impala's, Delta's (GM full size) are almost bullet proof. My buddy owned a couple of Impala's and a delta, I also own a 85 delta 88 (last year of the RWD ones) and dude these things run forever. They only thing you have to worry about on those is the carb and the tranny, thats just my 2cents

The thing has moderately low km's, and is in great running condition, just the body is shot...the guy knows very little about vehicles ("You want to put that engine under the hood of THAT car...? Okk..."), except how to have them maintained. What kind of insane prject would it be to buy this car for engine/tranny/etc, and make it work for my 'lil Bird...? The great thing being that I'll actually have a seperate vehicle to drive in the meantime, while over winter I can tear down the 350, rebuild it for spring, while accquiring other misc parts along the way. I ask the Thirdgen Ont. Bretheran simply because I'm not sure if it'd be worth getting myself into this or just waiting and getting a GTA....agh, why can't I just keep my mind made up...? Stupid deals...!

Sounds like a real good price for everything.

The Olds certified and e-tested is worth it alone

As for the 80's impala can you say no horsepower. These engines were severely detuned in order to meet emission standards. I bet you would be lucky to see 180 horsepower out of an 80's 350. (open Chamber heads and dished pistons equal no compression)

Actualy, the factory sticker, next to "Turbofire", says "227 HP" or something similar (226, 228 hp, whatever). I'll get more specs ASAP, sorry for the lack of info.

I am with Ratchet on the lack of HP. If you are purchasing it to put the engine into the bird, may not be the best of ideas, you might be a little disapointed, but buy it and drive it, it will last you forever!

i would go for that deal, you get a certified car thats ready to go for winter and a 350 that you can build......Rachet is right, if you want power you will need to rebuild it and put a good cam and pistons and heads, etc, but you are still getting alot for 650. if you dont buy it, please give me this guys number and i will go and buy them.

K, I looked around, I guess the car is actually in it's 70's, here's an exact same pic of what the engine looks like...

Who cares if the 350 are detuned, it's still a 350. its a good platform to start from. I'd take an older block style over a newer one any day. And for 650 bux, go for it.
