I presently have 245/50/16 on My Monte. These tire are 24" in diameter. I need a tire that is 26.5" in diameter, to keep the VSS working properly. What tire size would accomidate this diameter. Thanks for your input in advance.

 

Keiran, the overall diameter of my 245/50 R16 BFG G-Force KDW's are 25.7"..... You will have to go to a 55 series tire, and that will give you an estimated overall radius of 27" A lot of tire comany websites give you the overal diameter of their tire, this will help you out.

Did you measure your tires yourself? 24" overall seems kind of small for 245/50 R16 tires... like I said, mine are 25.7", and they are the same size as yours

 

Sorry. I did measure them myself. But you are right they are 25"and change. I still need a taller tire. My speedo is way off. And I have to much torque. I can spin the tires threw all 3 gears with ease. Not what I want! Need traction. I've been out driving her all weekend. Blew the doors of a Rustang, Kill #1 and a ricearoni Honda, kill #2. Need more traction! Thanks for the input Nathan

 

Well... if you need traction, I would suggest a tire with a 250 or lower Treadwear rating, or a nice set of drag radials.

How much room do you have for tire width? A BFG Comp T/A ZR (220 Treadwear Rating) 255/50 ZR16 has an overall diameter of 26.1" And those should give you some nice traction.

 

Well I have 2 1/2" spacers in there right now. Clearance width wise, isn't a real issue. I will have to check out the ones you mentioned tomarrow. Thankxs

That's a 25.64 inch wheel if I'm not mistaken.

Equation is 245 x .5 x 2 divide by 25.4 + 16 = 25.64

 

Uhh! OK i guess. Never seen it put that way before George. Question though.
245x.5=122.5 right. Why do you x it by 2 again? This just bring you back to 245 again. And where did you get the 25.4 from? Just curious as to where you got this equation.

 

Width is 245mm.

Sidewall height is 50% of the width for your tyre.

For a 215/65/15 tyre the sidewall height will be 65% of 215mm.

So, you have to account for the sidwall height on each side of the wheel when you add it to the rim size to get the tyre height of 26.5 inches. Therefore multiply by two and add 16 inches for the rim.

The divide by 25.4 is to convert to inches from metric so you can add the rim size in inches.
