Lowering bracket for control arms

Anybody got a print for making relocation brackets for rear control arms? If not all this talk about porting runners has got me inspired again and I am goin out to the garage to make a template off of my car while it is up on stands.

what i plan to do when i make mine is find the appropriate size square tubing and simply cut one side of the the square tubing and go from there. the prices for these things are ridicoulous...like 60 bucks US, just for some bare steel.. making your own is the way to go in my opinion.

You can send me the drawing, as I have AutoCad 2000. I would love to take a look at it. Is it in the 2d or 3d viewpoint.
We have a well equipped mechanical dept that fabricates lots of items that is needed for the machines, so getting some made shouldn't be a problem, I hope.

Brackets

To all the people that I have sent dwgs to; I stress that you must use GRADE 8 TYPE quality bolts. They will be longer also. You need 2 for each side; one to replace the existing one and one for the lower part of the bracket. I went to the bottom hole and it helped tremendously since I have the eibach pro springs. For you guys that have acess to a milling machine at work; I would suggest that you make the brackets out of 3/8 thick mild steel and mill the 3/16 away that is not needed. It just saves time not having to make the oval spacers and welding them on. Also; I would weld the support brace after installation so all parts are settled. Be careful to only do one side at a time as this allows the rear end side that you are working on to move freely. These brackets are a must for lowered cars and how true the adds are.in a normal car the LCA is level. When the car is lowered; the end of the LCA that is connected to the rear end becomes higher than the other end bolted to the underside of the car. The LCA keeps the rear end in place and know since the rear end -end is higher; under hard acceleration this causes the force to pull up on the rear end causing weight transfer to the front which causes your LOUSEY TRACTION. Now with the LCA brackets ; the rear end connection is lower then the underside at the other end of the LCA. During hard acceleration the rear end forces now push down and better wight transfer occurs to the tires with a better bit. I have a 1988 Formula 350 and am doing 13.93@99.32mph. I have no internal engine mods but a lot of bolt on stuff. I hope to do better this year as I am in installing SFC(Comp.Eng. bolt ons) that I will weld when installed and a better set of tires. Iam running the old Comp. TA "V" rated tires. Will be going to Kumho 712's. Hope this info helps.

Thanks for the print. It was some help but I decided to design my own from scratch.

The thing I was concerned with was locating the brackets in the correct location when welding them on the rearend.

So when I designed these I made sure that the distance from the existing mounting hole to the flat at the bottom of the existing bracket was exactly the same and on the correct angle to allign the new holes with the arc made by the lower control arm. Probably didn't explain that very well but suffice to say that when you put a bolt in the top hole of these brackets and through the existing mounting hole currently in the bracket on the rearend the lower bracket is automatically lined up and ready to weld in place.

Here are some pics
Rats I Tried the IMG tag thingy but I don't know where to save the image on the net to get it to work on here.

see small attacments below

And the last One.

I really need to figure that IMG tag thing out.

Anyway about these brackets It took me 6hours to make these things workin flat out. Pretty stupid aye. This is not a project I would undertake again. If I were to do it again I would buy the Sphon brackets instead. Only an Idiot with nothing but time to waste and absolutely no money would ever attempt to make these things. The Sphon Brackets are a great deal!!!!!

You worked fast. The biggest thing with these brackets are the arc of the holes. After that any design will work. You may have to do some trimming when you install thats why there are rounded corners on the templates of the dwg. When they are on you will feel better bite on the tires and then thats when you will feel the time is really worth it. Glad I could help.
