since i was a kid i have seen nice cars in parking lots that park on a slant takeing up two parking spots to prevent other cars from parking close to them. is it legal to do this?? can i park like this if i want? whats the info? thanks

 

Depends on the owners of the parking lot, they may not look kindly on this practice and have you towed.

It's illegal if it's a public parking lot and you can get a ticket for it. But more than that it's just really annoying and gay. Do everyone a favour and park it in a spot away from the rest of the cars. Just my opinion

 

I double park all the time. Not right up front, but away from high traffic areas. If my car's gonna get scratch it'll be scratched by me, not some a$$ in a parking lot trying to squeeze beside me cause his honda has 17's and he wants to try and show me up.

 

I sometimes park right beside people who do that, even though they usually park far away. Its just funny when they come out and see someone right beside them and are like wtf!

I usually double park my truck as far away as I can. It's funny, I never double parked my GTA. I will with the Z28 though.

 

Yeah, that happens quite often. I'll come out and somebody will be parked sideways next to me. That might have been funny in high school but I don't find it funny now. But to each his own

you take up 2 spots and you will get keyed...ive seen it a few times here no matter you do your gona get some kinda damage you park normal and someone will park nice and close to you and smack your ride with there door..i have like a million little dents from that..but i make sure to do it back to the people who do it

If somebody is motivated enough to make the long stroll out just to key my car/truck then they probably have some kind of mental deficiency.

 

This whole process/topic is about "mental deficiency" really. Someone double parks to protect their vehicle from brainless morons who can't park their own car or open their doors without causing damage to other vehicles, and thus by double-parking they have somehow assumed they have greaters rights to the space than everyone else, then someone else to be funny parks next to them anyways and ends up with a keyed paintjob. It's a continuously downward spiral.

Solution? Drive a crapbox that no one else would dream of parking next to (ooops, that doesn't work so well anymore, insurers won't let you do that anymore), or tell parking lot controllers (i.e. mall management, lot attendants, store employees, whoever) to take a more active role in policing their parking facilities to watch out for the double-parkers and the morons who can't understand how to drive or open a door and put notices on vehicles in violation of their policy and then ticket/tow then the next time it happens (i.e. license plate tracking).

Or better yet- get the MOT to stop awarding drivers licenses to retards- or even better, get the federal government to stop allowing every uneducated, never been in a car until they get to Canada, third-world loser to move here and get their first drivers license, minimum wage paycheck and kidney dialysis treatment, but I digress...

As people have pointed out- on public property, or on portions of semi-private property (i.e. fire routes and such in private parking lots or obviously marked areas 'reserved' for different things like handicapped or employee parking) the cops can ticket/tow as can bylaw officers. On private property it can really be all up in the air. If there is adequate signage quoting parking lot policy/bylaws to be followed, etc. then the mall can have your car ticketed/towed with little consequence- but if not, I think they would likely be risking alot of hassle and possible legal issue if they towed without appropriate 'notification'. Creatively, however, some private parking lots (i.e. like outside convenience stores) state quite clearly some things like "5 minute parking only" or "customer parking only"- thus if they had you towed and you can't produce a receipt from their store- they have the right to have you removed- even if "technically" it's for being gone more than 5 minutes or not shopping in their store- while the real reason is that you're pissing them off with a crappy parking job.

I never double park when a parking lot is busy. I literally park over in the farthest corner. Everything you wrote makes sense but I have zero interest in driving a **** box. Driving is my favorite past time and I'm prepared to accept the dings and scratches. Hell, my truck took an *** kicking this winter. But I will be proactive whenever I can to avoid things that don't need to happen.

I double parked my truck at the store today........on the sidewalk Ohhhh yeah. Now i'm gonna go kick some puppies and slap some nuns.

 

All you have to do is park in such a way that the double-parked moron can't get out. If he's diagonal across two spots, leave your butt hanging out a bit so he can't back out. Perfect.

Of course, it helps if you're in a beater.

I remember a kid in high school who used to double park his dad's Cougar right on the corner of the lot every day. What a tool.

Amen. I double park at the back of the lot because I see it as protecting an investment. That and the fact that i'm quite fond of both my car and my truck.
