AutoTrader Misc. and Cobalt?

I check AutoTrader every week for third gens...just because I guess. Anyway, based on some of the asking prices these guys have, I would think that I could sell my car for $20k.
Realistically, not a chance, but when I compare my car to these cars, I think I come out on top in most cases. A lot of people in here on TGO could claim the same. Seems like a lot of 'verts...and they never sell for some reason. I wouldn't want one, just don't like them.

Came across this weird one today:

82Z With Vette Rear End

I don't know what I think of it? Different anyway.

Here is my question: What is the opinion on the Cobalt? LS 5spd Coupe in particular...I know it has the Ecotec engine which can be modded fairly cheaply for some decent gains, but anyone drive one? Anyone have any friends with one? Its not for me. Its for the woman. I don't want her driving some asiental or euro car, so Cobalt is where I had her start. She really likes the look, and the drive...but I wanted some real opinions.

Thanks,

Chris

I've heard that the cobalt is a HUGE improvement over the J-bodys.They look a little plain and easy to lose in a croud in terms of styling but they still seem like a good car for getting from A to B and everywhere in between.I like the cobalt SS..lost the wing and i think the car would be even better.

I know what you mean about the 3rd Gens..I've looked from time to time and the prices seem crazy.I'd be amazed if the cars actually sold for anything nere their asking prices.

Couple of months ago, I was looking for a GTA. The first question I would ask was any rust/holes in the floor. The answer was always no. An honest answer would have prevented me from wasting my time to go look at these rust buckets. Most of them had huge holes rusted thru the floor.

Don't know a thing about the cobalt. Saw a show on speedvision I think about gm eng. modding the things to compete with the ricers.

Slightly slower and more expensive. It gets even pricier when you add the "Comp Group" to make it equal to the SRT-4. I think it includes an LSD and better seats.

I'd love to own an SRT-4 some day but I don't have much interest in a Cava....errrr....Cobalt. The only GM cars i'd touch are the Vibe and the Aveo.

Personally I always hated Cavaliers and to me, those Cobalts look like a Cavalier so..... honestly, don't know anything about them. I don't like most of GM's new products... I don't care for the styling of any of them (except for the Vette, those things are sweet). Thats just my opinion tho.....

Some dumb idiot in GM decided to put the heaviest rims they could make on the SS. Apparently people gain alot of acceleration, road response and stuff just from switching to a lighter rim. So it's acceleration numbers are a little deflated.

Anyway, it's not a bad car, it's just that it is so eclipsed im performance by the SRT-4.

I've never personally driven the new Cobalt but from what I hear and the reviews on automobile programs, yes, it is an improvement over the Cav and the Sunfire and all the reviews have been favourable. If you're not looking at European or Asian subcompacts nor a Chrysler Neon or Ford Focus, looks like you don't have much of a choice other than to look at the new Chevrolets or Pontiacs

And I've been checking out Trader.ca on occasion. Seems like the the price of thirdgens has gone up. It seems hard to find one on there for under 10 grand and there aren't too many. Lookin' alot better than last year's horribly low prices. But I'm sure prices will drop some just before the winter as there will be desperate sellers. I remember the prices of stangs were outragious (don't know if they still are haven't looked).

My roomate has a Cobalt. I've taken it out a few times. He's got the base model. The ride is smooth, and the cabin is comfortable. It holds up to MI freeways. And those are basically ripped up all year long. It rides those potholes like it's floating on butter! I'd say she'd be pleased with it. It's a nice car.
