Bang for buck and performance, which intake would you recommend, between the Accel superram, slp T-ram (on ebay now),Holley stealthram or just go with hi-flow runners with hi-flow intake manifold by accel or edelbrock?
Does anyone know if the Holley stealth fits under a GTA hood?

I don't think the Stealth ram fits under trans am hoods. But that would be my choioce if I went EFI again.

Super Ram...I shudder every time I see those. What a stupid design to work on. Makes nice torque though.

HSR is best bang for the $, and ya it fits unter the GTA hood as long as you cut a hood brace out

And it works good to, even with the air brakes on... er.. hood up

350 or 305? HSR might be abit much for a 305

350 of course, I was just trying to see what the best setup would be for the buck, seems like the HSR setup is nice and well priced compared to the rest.
I just wanted some feedback, as long as it fits under the hood Im good other wise I was going for the hi-flow manifold and runners but r double in price.

Like I said the hood has to be cut so if you dont mind cutting your hood you are good to go, ask Trigger for a pic of what has to be cut on the hood, he is running the HSR in Jen's GTA

Yes Mike it can be made emission legal with some modification, needs to run an external EGR simular to the Corvette, ask Louich for details as he's the knowledgable one on the subject not I

Looks good, do you have another pic to see the front as well?
Whats your setup, what TB do you have and do you notice a performance diff worth the money?

Mike just thought of something, your gunna be at the Camaro Nationals right? I think Jesica will be there, if so, her car has an external EGR, I'll show you there and once you see hows its plumbed in then you'll know how to do it with the HSR

i cant remember if i did just the intake or a can and the intake at the same time. but i did see a 4mph gain in trap speed at the track. i was happy with the intake

if your not into racing and are just looking to make your car faster for few dollars then you might want to look at a set of gears

set up is
10:1
lt4 hotcam
afr heads
hsr
stock TB

What gears would you recommend and what size rear end is in the 87 GTAs, 7.5?

what gears would depend on how much milage your willing to give up. and how much highway driving you do. also what your set up is like too.

my car, i will be adding a set of 3.73

Re: Intakes

For anyone doing intake research off in the future: Please take a moment to consider a Mega Ported factory Plenum by Mike Graycar Corvette's. Not only does it look stock, but it is FANTASTIC!

Example: I've got a very tired 1988 5.7 IROC that's getting a hand built new block . I got Mike's Plenum, and just to get some basic numbers, I installed it without the milled new SLP runners or the matched Edelbrock intake. Prior, my car followed the typical 5.7 issue of running out of air at 4800 rpm.

Other than the plenum install, I changed over my clean factory injectors to new SVO 24 pounders. I did 4 pulls and they were all about perfectly matched. I showed a good 13 horsepower jump to the rear wheels, it came on much earlier, held the graph even till about 6100-6200rpm before tapering off.
Mike has a great website with easy to understand pic's and info. If we do the plenum/runners/intake, we should be able to about match the performance of the HSR.

Food for Thought!

Re: Intakes

I did SLP runners on a stock intake, TB and mildly ported plenum. I was mildly pleased with the result. I think it made 11rwhp. I did some base porting and didn't notice any results other than I was out $40 for intake gaskets and some grind time.

Later I did hiflow Accel base + Accel runners + fully ported plenum + stock TB. It really woke up the car a definite A+ recommend on that upgrade. Its street legal out of the box. You won't see 50hp out of it like an HSR but then it isn't an HSR. More like 33hp and 31lbs tq.

I don't know your background but would say unless you are a fully committed 3rd genaholic tuning guy I wouldn't recommend an HSR or T-ram as your first upgrade. Better try something less complex and work your way up.

Re: Intakes

Makes me wonder ...can you take a non compliant maniflod ...modify it to work just like a compatible manifold .....will it be considered legal then ?
