Ex Players car-New motor and a great season!
Many of you may remmember my "trashed motor in my car" thread from last year. Well I built a new motor over last winter and have been running it this year at lapping and a Solo Sprint events on the big track at Mosport.
WOW!! What a blast!! I have some in car video but I need to know a place to post it to share with you!
I did personal best on Saturady of a 1:44 on the big track at Mosport!! Yee haw!!
For the tech heads here is my new motor:
4 bolt main block, same block-
cast crank, .010,
Probe forged pistons- flat top valve reliefs only.
Probe ultra light 6.0 inch rods, with ARP 9310 bolts.
Total seal rings, Sealed power HV oil pump w/3/4" pickup, Canton 244T RR oil pan with 3/4pick up.
Clevite H bearings,
Comp cams CS XR294HR-10 , p/n 08-443-8 hyd roller, gross lift. Int. 540, ex, .562
duration @ .050 int. 242, ex. 248
Lobe seperation 110 deg.
Nice lope at idle.
World product S/R torquer heads, 2.02/1.8, 76 CC cahmbers, 9.3:1 compression ratio, Manley springs and retainers, screw in studs, guide plates etc.
Edelbrock torquer II intake,
Holley HP 750 DP. 82 primaries and 83 secondaries
Hedman headers in to single y pipe. into a single 3 inch SS exhaust, no Cat only a flow master muffler. tracks have noise limits these days.
MSD billet distributor, 6AL box and SS coil.
RUNS GREAT!! I need some dyno time to fine tune it. Pulls like a frieght train, right runs out of steam at about 6400 RPM.
Chassis, Koni sports front and rear, 1000lbs prings in front, 200 lbs in rear, with weight jackers, stock 1LE bars front and rear, granetelli LCA mounts, Tubluar aluminum, and adjustable LCAs and panhard bar. Jegs, adjustable Panhard bar mount
9 bolt posi with extension for more fluid capacity. 3.45 gears, WC T-5 trans.
Full Roll cage, gutted interior, fire extingusher, radio, Kirkey intermediate aluminum seat etc.
Lots of fun!!! Just thanks for all the encouragement and help from people on here!!
Regards
Steve

That looks awsome! auto-x-ing is soooooo much fun. BTW, I was looking through your engine combo and saw that your using a Edelbrock torquer II intake. Can I ask why? reason being that your engine is a high air flow motor and the Edelbrock torquer II intake is for mild build-ups. I would use the Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap. Just my opinion.

I did autocross about 25 years ago in california whre I grew uP great way to start and good bang for the buck. I road race it at Mosport, Shannonvile, etc. great fun, You should come out to a lappign day.
Sure..I used the Torker II for a few reasons
1
1. Low rise and Single plane -Fit under the stock hood. I used solid motor mounts so the motor sticks up a bit higher than stock.
2. The heads are only S/R Torquers, they are 2.02/1.8 but only have 170 CC intake runners and 76 CC chambers.
3. The RPM range of the Torquer II is 2000- 6500 perfect for the cam and the heads. Single plane still breathes better than a dual plane up high and yes the Rpm Air gap is a good manifold.
4. . Cheap $40 on ebay
the engine pulls strongly to 6400 RPM no problem, cam and lifters run out about then.
Now when I go to a nice set aluminum, 64 CC cahmbers with 200-210 CC intake runners, then I would go with a Victor Junior intake. Perfect size Single plane for my application.
that's my reasons and I am happy with them so far, but there is always room for improvement.
I Ned so dyno time to fine tune the setup. Additionally, it would be cool to see what a RPM Air Gap vs. the Torquer II on this engine.
thanks for the interest and take care

Steve:
Mucho congratso on the 1:44 that's quite an improvement from the NECC event; I think we were 2.4 seconds apart at that one but there's no way my car will go 1:44.
We were there on Thanksgiving Monday with TRAC and everything went really well. I didn't get a time but I know I was a lot faster because I was pushing it to the point of brake fade into the esses and also at 1, 4 and 5a.
Passing was allowed pretty much anywhere which was a blast because it was more like a race situation and the cars were all running close - people really watched their mirrors though and there were no incidents. I was like 3 feet off the back of my friends 2000SS through 5b and also setting up the other cars through 9 and 10 to stick a pass on them down the pit straight - best lap day I've been to..lol
Too bad about the red Mustang - it was still there on Monday as well - Looks like he really did the job on it.
Nice shot of your car down through 2.
Someone on the Quebec board said he had in car video of my car passing him on the straight but for some reason I can't get a copy of it - damn
Anyway, talk to you later.

I ran a Torker II on 2 of my build ups. I went to a crappy Weiand Xcellerator, and it even worked better. Relaistically, if you didn't mind going to a different hood, or a drop base air cleaner, you could easily pick up 15-20hp throughout the range with the rpm-air gap over the torker II, even in the upper rpm band.
It's only around 3hp less than a Vic Jr. high rpm hp output, but gives alot more in the lower rpm as well.
BTW, that's the cam i want to run as well, have to wait to see how my e-test situation is going to fair out first though. How is the cam? How doggy is it in the bottom end and when does it really wake up?

The air fliter I have, the Edelbrock pro flow? the open triangle one, hits my hood as it is. I would like to go with a drop top, open element one. Bit with solid motor mounts I feel I would have to run a different hood.
I agree on the RPM air gap, nice manifold, The RPM Air gap would give a better torque curve but is tall. I have looked at the Weiand Team G single plane and it is the exact same height at the torker II. The runners and water passage are isolated from the base like the RPM Air gap,
The cam is OK at low RPM, starts to come on strong at about 2500 and pulls right up to red line. The idle is lopey and pulls about 6" of vaccum. I was ruunig about 950 rom idle, I then went to a MDS distributor, coil, and 6AL box and I was able to lower the idle to around 800 rpm, still very lopey.

George,
Thanks for the reply and the great pics. We need get you real tranmission in that car!!! ;-)
Also some r- compounds woudl help alot!!!
I'll have a set for you nest year!! cheap, get you a set of 16 rims over the winter, the r compounds are singel biggest thing you can do!
Take care

The 10 bolt is just about out of it now and it's still got that vibration problem.
R compounds would be good though and I'm thinking about swapping C4HDs on to the front and maybe some ducting.
Gotta post one more pic from last week - hunting catfish..lol

player 88, I did a search for solid motor mounts and your post came up. What motor mounts are you running?
I'm looking to use solid mounts in the car I'm building for next year but if anything, I'd like to lower the motor instead of raise it. I was hoping to use an off-the-shelf solution instead of working with circle track parts, but I haven't found anything yet that accomplishes my goal.
Thanks in advance.
